This was a wonderful trip. Lake Titicaca was stunning. Palccoyo Mountain was beautiful & a great introduction to high altitude walking. But the highlight was walking the Inca Trail & reaching Macchu Picchu. It was worth the 4 days of trekking to get that first glimpse through the sun gate. It was simply stunning. Our guide, Will, was exceptional. He took such great care of everyone in the group & shared the highlights of his wonderful country with us. All of the accommodation was great & the camping whilst on the trail was comfortable. The team of porters & cooks were simply brilliant (so much food!) I hope all of the trek team get a fair wage as the work they do is back-breaking. A couple of tips: go a night or 2 earlier if you want to see a bit of Lima. I flew in a day before the group flight & enjoyed seeing the best of the city (2 days was enough though). I’d also recommend getting the train between Puno & Cusco. It was a stunning journey & such a great way to see this beautiful country. If getting to Macchu Picchu is on your bucket list, do it, you won’t regret it.

This was an excellent trip in every way. The leader Alejandro was outstanding- very caring, helpful , informative and well-organised. Peru is a varied and interesting country and although Machu Picchu was spectacular there were many other highlights to our tour. The itinerary covered a lot of ground but it was not too rushed with a good mix of organised activities and some free time. The transport by bus and train was comfortable and the hotels were good and well-situated.

An excellent introduction to Peru. While the highlight of the trip was our visit to Machu Picchu this was a well constructed itinerary with so many highlights covering the landscape, wildlife and history of the country. The accommodation, transport and food were of a high standard, of course with some variations depending on the local environment. The tour leader, Hector, was exceptional, both professional and personable and did his best to maximise our experience. Our concerns with the effect of altitude were needless since every effort was made to ensure full acclimatisation. We also benefited from a lovely group of fellow travellers from the UK and Australia. We flew out a day early so that we could look round Lima and would highly recommend. We also took the Amazon extension staying at the Inkaterra Field station which were enjoyed although there were shortcomings in the itinerary against that described in the brochure. It is also worth considering the optional trips on the second day of Machu Picchu: although it says that this needs to be selected at the time of booking some of the group had been able to book this at a later time. Finally, we have done a number of Explore trips and would rate this one in the highest category.

Arturo was a fantastic leader and guide. Knowledgable, helpful, caring, experienced and amusing. This was my 11th Explore holiday and Arturo is up there with the best guides. The porters and cooks are heroes - we were very happy to tip them generously. The itinerary was perfect, though no one should underestimate the challenge of around ten hours walking on day three. Cusco hotel staff were fine but the layout around a central atrium means the rooms are very noisy. The hotel near Machu Picchu was lovely but the staff were rude, unhelpful and disinterested. Overall I’d fully recommend this trip - but be sure to get into shape beforehand and consider your kit carefully.

A great and very enjoyable trip with a very good guide / tour leader (Daniel). Such varied culture, food and scenery too. I felt like I learned and saw a lot. My one recommendation would be to make sure you read the trip notes carefully before you go / book. You cover a lot of ground (long distances) at times in order to and pack everything in. So there are some long travel days and plenty of early starts. Loved it.
