As a solo traveller, this was my first experience in a group, and it won't be my last. The whole tour exceeded my expectations and every day had a 'Wow' factor. It was very full on and not a relaxing holiday, but when you're travelling that far, why would you not want to embrace everything that the whole country has to offer?! Our guide, Pabel was excellent. Very friendly, helpful, accommodating to our needs and has a true passion for, and a very deep knowledge of his country. He deserves a huge pay rise! Overall, had an excellent time and highly recommend G Adventures Geluxe tour! I am a very experienced traveler, but you really need a tour operator to see Peru / Machu Picchu / Inca Trail, and G Adventures is the best! I saw many other tour groups along the way, and they seemed to be larger and/or having lower quality experiences / food / accommodations. G Adventures Geluxe is not cheap, but it's worth the cost - accommodations, food, and experiences were excellent. And I was absolutely blown away by the food, accommodation, and attention to detail on the Inca Trail....five star experience from the tents to warm sleeping bags to the absolutely amazing meals. Shout out to our CEO, our guide on the trek, our chef, and the porters who worked SO hard to make our trip comfortable!!! (Note: despite all the comforts, it is still camping/glamping and difficult hiking, so take that into consideration when deciding if this is for you.)

The Classis Peru trip is full-on, covering a lot of ground in just two weeks. The key sights are there, but also lots of unexpected minor sites which became highlights too. The quality of guide will make or break this kind of tour because there is quite a bit of travelling and exposure to unfamiliar history. We were extremely well served in this department with Arturo, who was well organised and very knowledgeable, but also kind and funny. The altitude effects must not be overlooked. Do expect to have a couple of days of feeling unwell, and recognise you may not be able to function with your usual energy and physical ability/stamina.

I will use Gluxe again. My main criticism was the food. For most meals at restaurants we were offered a special tourist menu - this usually was made up of ceviche or quinoa soup for starters; quinoa salad or lomos saltados for main. On a 16 night itinerary with lunch and dinner included this became very dull and spoilt the holiday. In the end we began to insist on ordering off the full menu. We were quite happy to pay the whole thing ourselves. We cancelled our last night meal as we could not face yet another no choice menu of the same things. Most of the restaurants had a tourist feel to them, offering the same dishes to various groups of tourists. This was the major disappointment of an. otherwise very special trip.
