History of this place begins in 4th century BC when Barcelona was occupied by the Laietani. Barkeno, on Montjuïc, was their main settlement. It was constructed for the World's Fair in Barcelona in 1888 in order to honor Columbus' first voyage to the Americas.

Then there is the Gambrinus Lobster Statue next to the Head of Barcelona. It was originally part of the decor at the Gambrinus seafood restaurant.
