This unique expedition combines both glacier hiking and ice climbing. If you want to experience one of the natural wonders of the blue ice while working out, this is the perfect adventure for you!
You will meet your experienced guide at Skaftafell Information Centre Parking lot and from there you will be driven to the root of Svínafellsjökull, which is an outlet glacier of the Vatnajökull Ice Cap. The glacier is a part of the tallest mountain range in Iceland, and the highest peak in the country, Hvannadalshnúkur is easily seen from the glacier in a clear sky.
Before stepping on the ice, your guide will gear you up and provide you with the necessary safety equipment needed for this glacier expedition and teach you how it’s used.
During the glacier walk, you will be exploring the breathtaking ice formations and moulins while learning how they are formed and constantly change. You will also be able to attempt to conquer gravity when you get the chance to climb up the ice walls with ice axes and crampons. This was an amazing trip. Varied and interesting hiking, experienced authentic southern Spain, amazing history. Hosts in all the places we stayed were excellent, accommodations were stellar! And a special mention of the hosts at Posada San Marcos (Alajar) who coordinated the transportation, were helpful and knowledgeable about the area and provided a wonderful 3 night stay at the end of the trip.

The tour takes you to Ananuri, a historic castle complex consisting of two medieval towers, two churches and defensive walls. After exploring the area, you'll be driven to Gudauri, where you can enjoy the stunning panoramic view over the Caucasus Mountains. Continue your journey in the direction of Kazbegi city. From Kazbegi, we'll head out to visit the famous Gergeti Trinity Church. Enjoy the splendid surroundings and a little exercise on an 8-kilometre hike to the church. Or, for an extra cost, you have the option to be driven to the site in a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Afterwards, we will depart for Tbilisi.
Would highly recommend this trip. It provides great variety in scenery, beginning in the very hilly area around the base of Mt Olympus; down into lovely valleys and then stunning coastal scenery. We found the written directions to be excellent while the red and white track markers gave us lots of help as well. We were very impressed with Mehmet who kept in contact with us at the end of each day.
