This was an excellent trip in April 2022 - great itinerary, so much culture, fantastic guide (Tarek) and such delicious food on the Nile boat. I loved every minute of it, and so glad I went. Particular highlights for me were the temples at Karnack, Valley of the Kings, the food on the Nile boat and the yellowness of the sandstorm that engulfed us on our way back from Abu Simbel! It is however, not a trip for the faint-hearted. There are LOTS of early starts. Almost every day was a start before 7am and on a couple of days, it was up at 3am. There is LOTS of walking, I think I did about 27 miles in the 9 days - to/from temples, round museums, in/out of airports, to/from local markets etc. Personally, I am not sure I would label this as 'leisurely' - yes, there were no hills to climb, but it was often uneven, sandy ground we walking on and when I went, Egypt was also going through a heatwave, so it was 43 or 44 degrees every day. I ignored some of the optional extras so I could have some down time on the boat. I would also add that in additional to the 'essentials' listed on the what to take, you also need: sunhat, scarf to cover your shoulders and women need to wear a long skirt for the day they are going into the mosque in Cairo. Refillable water bottle and light/comfortable walking shoes - very essential! Also, take US dollars as your main currency (small denominations and not ripped notes). You will need some Egyptian pounds for some of the attractions, but everywhere they just want hard currency - even at the local markets. Final word of advice - don't bother with the extra walk INSIDE the pyramid in Cairo. It is near vertical, baking hot and nothing to see at the end of it. My legs were wobbly for hours afterwards. Overall, this was a totally amazing trip though and hope you enjoy it.

It is truly a wonderful experience, but at the same time a truly "educational one"! Our tour director, was exceptional not wasting a moment of any day, pointing out the very significant points of interests, at the same time, taking every part of this significant history in a chronological order. The accomodations and service, both on the boat and in the hotel were five start plus, since we live in the Palm Beaches and use to up-scale adventure, made the "Breakers", look like an outhouse.....need I say more! The value vs the price were evenly matched. As for shopping, once again, significant shops were selected to include, spice, perfumes, and of course jewelry. At the same time educationing you on their wares and how they are used. Like INSIGHT always does, is taking you inside the home of a residemt and demonstrates their current life style and habits, only in this example, demonstrated how bread was made not only for their family, but the entire neighborhood. The whole trip was great. Our guide in Egypt was the best I have ever had. Henry was very knowledgeable and funny, and always on top of everything. My favorite things - Riding a camel at the pyramids, racing across the desert in the back of pickups at Wadi Rum in Jordan, Staying in a Nubian Village in Egypt, and the resort at the Dead Sea. Loved floating in the Dead Sea and being covered in mud. I skipped the last day tour and stayed at the resort for an all-day spa day. Well worth it!

The only thing I would change is that the first day - coming right after most people had taken trans-oceanic flights and still had jet lag - was too demanding (flying to Luxor, touring Karnak before checking into ship). It would have been better to have a lighter Day One to allow for rest and time zone adjustment, and do Karnak on the way back. The all-women's tour group and the Tour Director were outstanding and hugely enhanced the experience. Tipping became a constant irritant and would be better if Tour Director handled tips and Insight appropriately raised the package cost, to alleviate that daily chore (ensuring correct currency & denominations, ATM visits, etc.). PS - bring American dollars in small bills. Overall, a fascinating country, knowledgeable and constantly helpful Tour Director, and a good balance of historic and current experiences. Aswan (and the Cataract Hotel) was a definite highlight, and don't pass on Abu Simbel. It is worth the cost; as is the Aswan boat tour of the Nile (two options worth doing).
