Far ranging busy trip. Halong bay cruise with luxury accommodation and food was a particular highlight. Train trip overnight was interesting but would not rush to repeat. I truly enjoyed the 2 weeks that I spent in Malaysia, on Borneo at the beginning and on the Malay peninsula at the end. Accommodation was of a high quality with the possible exception being the long house for 1 night in Borneo. There were separate guides in the 2 halves of Malaysia, and both were simply excellent: Aldrin in Borneo and Ant on the peninsula. The trip was mostly at a leisurely pace which is what I like, and there was an ample amount of free time on some days, and that includes 1 total free day at the end on the island of Langkawi. This trip is a new one, and I think it's excellent. I highly recommend it.

Our gastronomic trip to Vietnam was excellent. We experienced a very wide range of food and in a wide range of locations. We tried street food in Hanoi and Saigon, ate the freshest fish and seafood on boat journeys and had a delightful meal home-cooked by a family. We helped prepare food in several places including spring rolls, savoury pancakes, and Vietnamese bean cake. In addition to eating (lots) there was plenty of time to experience ancient historical sites and to scratch the surface of the relatively more recent wars that the country has suffered. Our tour guide, Hung, was excellent. He had a great sense of humour and was one of the best guides we have experienced. We were a small group - only 4 of us. We got on really well, meeting as strangers but parting as friends, including our guide. A great trip all round and would thoroughly recommend.
