I was part of a group of 3 hikers wishing to climb Kilimanjaro via the Machame route in 7 days. The experience was great and landscapes so amazing. In fact it was the second time I climbed Kilimanjaro. I wanted to renew this experience because the first time the weather conditions was very cloudy the three first days and also I was not completely satisfied of the company I chose at that time.
As such, I selected Maasai Wanderings for the good reviews I had and also because it is part of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (you can have more details here: http://www.mountainexplorers.org/) that was a concern for me after my first experience. And what I can say is that I have not been disappointed, everything was perfect from the beginning to the end.
We were guided by Julius and his team that I recommend. He is a very nice guy, likable, always calm, encouraging you and giving all information required when you need it. He is adapting to you, and most of the time the first days, slowing you down to maximize a progressive acclimatization. I was interested by flowers and history of Kilimanjaro (snow cover, geology) and this guy is a big library.
Food was very good, varied and always in good quantity. It is surprising to see what the cooker is able to do in such conditions. There was a big mess tent where all meals were taken when it was not possible outside. The cooker is cooking just in front of you. The tent had also two extension rooms on each sides dedicated for staff (relaxing/sleeping). It was funny to see that despite of the altitude, the coldness etc. they were always happy, smiling, talking all time etc.
Everybody was dressed properly and adapted to the mountain conditions, even for the shoes. This is important to note because I have been very sad when I saw few other porters from other companies dressed just with a tee-shirt with holes everywhere or not descent shoes. When we reached the last camp (Barafu Hut) at around 13:00, one of the porter was sick and Julius, the guide, decided to escort him down to the gate quickly. He was back to Barafu Camp few hours before we left the camp to climb the final step and came with us! Everybody in the team successfully reached the top Uhuru Peak and of course everybody was very happy. Once again it has been an excellent trip and experience. I keep a lot of good memories.
For these reasons I recommend clearly Maasi Wanderings, for the quality of the guiding, the food, the tents, the team, all the equipments provided (and in good shape).
Set your sights on Africa’s highest peak with a seven-day Mount Kilimanjaro climb along the scenic Lemosho route—an adventure designed for young adults and seasoned explorers alike. This private, guided trip begins in Arusha, whisking you to the remote Londorossi Gate, where your ascent truly begins. Looking for a Kilimanjaro climb that offers both solitude and stunning vistas? The 'Mount Kilimanjaro Climb via Lemosho Route: 7 Days' trip is your gateway to Africa’s highest peak via one of its most scenic and less-traveled routes. This private guided expedition begins with a pickup in Moshi, including a pre-tour night’s accommodation for a seamless start.
Hike through lush rainforest to reach Shira Ridge, then cross the expansive Shira Plateau—unlike the popular Machame Route, Lemosho lets you traverse the entire plain from west to east, providing panoramic mountain views at every stage. From there, ascend via the southern circuit, passing Lava Tower, Barranco, and Barafu camps before reaching the summit.
The unique selling point of this tour package is the combination of lower foot traffic and breathtaking scenery, maximizing your chances of summit success while offering a more peaceful wilderness experience. All logistics, transport, and expert guidance are included, ensuring you can focus on the journey and the achievement of reaching Kilimanjaro’s peak.
Challenge yourself on Africa’s highest peak with the Kilimanjaro - Machame Route, also known as the "Whiskey Route." This popular ascent is renowned for its varied, breathtaking scenery and steeper trails, making it a favorite among adventurous trekkers with some hiking experience.
Starting from Moshi, your journey includes a detailed trek briefing and equipment check before you set off into Kilimanjaro’s diverse landscapes. The Machame Route approaches from the southwest, crossing the Shira Plateau and offering an exhilarating scramble up the Lava Tower and a memorable climb up the Barranco Wall. Descending via the Mweka Route, trekkers are rewarded with ever-changing vistas and the thrill of traversing Kilimanjaro’s southern ice field.
Nights are spent in supplied tents at designated camps, with meals prepared by expert staff. One of the route’s key advantages is its strategic "climb high, sleep low" approach, which aids acclimatization and increases summit success rates. For those seeking an alternative challenge, the Western Breach provides an even more demanding path to the top. The Machame Route’s unique selling point is its combination of scenic beauty and acclimatization-friendly itinerary, making it one of the most successful and visually rewarding routes to the summit.
Challenge yourself on a legendary adventure with the Mt Kilimanjaro Machame Route 7 days 6 nights tour package. Towering above the African plains, Kilimanjaro is the continent’s highest peak and the world's tallest freestanding mountain—a magnet for trekkers craving the ultimate summit experience. This Machame Route, known for its zigzagging ascent and descent, is ideal for those who seek a trek designed for optimal acclimatization. Each night you’ll sleep low after climbing high, increasing your chances of conquering Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters.
A highlight—and rite of passage—is the traverse of the Baranco wall, managed safely and steadily with experienced guides. The descent via the Mweka route rounds out your journey. Camping accommodation connects you with nature every step of the way. The unique selling point of this tour? Its higher summit success rate, thanks to superior acclimatization strategy. If you’re an adventurer dreaming of reaching Africa’s rooftop, this challenging trek is your perfect match.
Set your sights on Africa’s tallest summit with the 7 Days Machame Route trekking tour up Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the ‘rooftop of Africa,’ Kilimanjaro stands at 5,895 meters and offers trekkers a journey through ever-changing landscapes—from lush rainforests and heather zones to dramatic moorlands and arid highland deserts. The Machame Route is famed for being the most scenic way to the top, ensuring a visual feast at every stage.
Guided by local experts, you’ll not only conquer physical challenges but also discover fascinating details about the mountain’s flora, fauna, and geology. Evenings are spent in comfortable mountain dome tents, with hearty meals prepared by camp chefs to fuel your ascent. A pre-climb briefing ensures you’re well-prepared for the days ahead, putting safety and success at the forefront.
This trekking tour is perfect for adventure-seekers who want both guidance and immersion in Tanzania’s wild beauty. The USP: a blend of expert local leadership and the Machame Route’s unrivaled scenery, making this a bucket-list climb for those ready to take on Kilimanjaro.
Book this seven-day, guided trip with us and summit Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, via the Shira route. The starting point of this route is the Shira Gate, which is located at a higher elevation than the Londorossi Gate, used by travelers heading for the top of the mountain through the Lemosho route. However, what is unique about the Shira route is that the first section of the trail is not covered by foot but driven. Therefore, climbers using this route will miss out on hiking through one of Kilimanjaro’s ecological zones, the rainforest.
Your journey starts in Moshi, from where we will drive you to the Londorossi Gate. An off-road vehicle will then transport you to the Shira Gate, located 3,600 metres above sea level, from where you will then hike up to Simba Camp on the first day of the climb. Please note that those who spent the previous night in Moshi will experience a sizeable gain in elevation today and might face complications due to the lack of acclimatisation.
From Simba Camp, your journey to the top continues via Shira 2 Camp, Lava Tower and Barafu Camp. Although it might be difficult for those who cannot deal with a sudden increase in elevation, this route is much more scenic than other routes to the top as it crosses the spectacular Shira Plateau and then joins the Machame route, thereby allowing climbers to experience beautiful sights around the southern circuit as well. Plus, you will experience a low traffic on this route until it joins the Machame.
The Shira is ideal for those who are confident in their ability to acclimatise fast and deal with sudden elevation increases. Along with this, travelers should also be able to trek through steep trails over an extended period of time.
Please note that the tour price also includes two night's accommodation in Moshi, one night each before and after the climb. For more details, please scroll down.

If you’re seeking a quieter, more remote ascent of Kilimanjaro, the Rongai Route is an excellent choice. Approaching from the north, near the Kenyan border, this route offers solitude and is especially suitable for those trekking during the rainy season, as the northern slopes receive less precipitation.
The seven-day itinerary allows for proper acclimatization, enhancing your chances of reaching the summit. Trekkers will pass through wilderness areas, spot wildlife such as elephants and buffalo, and enjoy the tranquility of less-traveled paths before joining the Marangu Route at Kibo Hut for the final push to the summit.
While the scenery may be less varied compared to western approaches, Rongai’s USP is its remoteness and accessibility, making it a moderately difficult yet achievable trek for those with less backpacking experience. This tour package is ideal for hikers desiring a successful and peaceful Kilimanjaro climb.

Embark on the most popular Kilimanjaro trekking route—the Marangu, often called the Coca-Cola route for its reputation as a relatively accessible climb. Unlike other routes, Marangu offers hut accommodations in place of tents, providing added comfort and protection from the elements. The trek begins at around 6,000 feet and, like all others, ends at the summit, making it an appealing choice for those who favor convenience. While some attempt the climb in five days, six or seven days are recommended for better acclimatization and summit success. This tour package’s unique appeal lies in its hut-based lodging, which offers a more comfortable option for trekkers looking for an approachable yet authentic Kilimanjaro experience.
