A fantastic (but challenging!) week in the beautiful mountains of Transylvania

Transylvania is a fantastic destination for hiking with stunning scenery, fabulous views, and so many wildflowers. The areas we hiked in felt remote and unspoilt. We saw very few hikers on the routes we took and even had one of the mountain huts to ourselves. As some of the other reviews say, this is a challenging week and requires a good head for heights (some parts are very exposed) and a good level of fitness. The days are long (8-10 hours of walking on the first three days, 6 hours on the last three days as the walks were cut short to avoid afternoon storms) which means little 'down time'. The terrain is varied (rocks and scree, pastures, meadows, forests). A significant amount of scrambling is required the first three days, and in particular the third when heading up to La Om. The other days don't require scrambling but are still demanding in terms of the terrain and elevation gain/loss. Two nights are spent in simple huts, with basic facilities (outside drop toilets), but the location of Cabana Malaiesti is spectacular as well worth it.

I loved visiting the parks but could have done without ants in my room at Yosemite. Air conditioning at the hotels in Yosemite and Sequoia would have been welcome. Spending a bit less time on the bus would also be good. On the plus side, the tour director and the driver were a good team. I have mobility issues and they went above and beyond to help me. The other members of the tour group were all very nice and also helped me.

Liked the itinerary. Only suggestion is that Trafalgar rearrange the schedule so that attendees are in Sequoia during the weekend. In Sequoia, the park shuttles only run on holidays and weekends.

Hiking in Andorra

My two daughters and I joined the May 9th to 16th, 2026, hiking in Andorra Exodus trip. We were based in Canillo, 20 minutes north of the capital, Andorra la Vella and stayed in the Hotel ‘Roc Meler’. The hotel featured a huge Irish Pub with a bar menu, a pool and spa area, and a dining floor. Large buffet breakfasts plus a bag lunch were included. The hotel is built on a very steep slope so entry was on the top floor with all other floors down. Interestingly the individual room temperature is controlled by the front desk. We found this hotel to be very comfortable and the spa was very rewarding after a days hiking, it cost extra to go to the spa but it was so worth it! We had 5 days of wonderful hiking. Steep mountains mean, a lot of steep trails. This last winter saw the most snow in 30 years so three of the hikes on the itinerary were not possible. Our guide Alfonso did an excellent job of finding alternate routes. A gentler day was a 13 km walk down a river valley seeing the local houses, farms and an old iron mine on the way. We stopped mid way for coffee, and finished up with beer in Ordino. Every hike offered something different and the scenery was incredible. The high lakes were still frozen. All five hiking days were sunny in the morning with either snow or rain by dinner time after we had finished. We thoroughly enjoyed each day and if our guide didn’t tell us, we wouldn’t have known the itinerary had changed. Our “day off’ was saved for the last day due to the forecast. We had lunch in Andorra la Vella and spent the afternoon at the spa. The city itself is modern, clean and offers duty free shopping. Even though it is on the pricey side, I highly recommend you try the Caldea spa if you are ever in Andorra. Overall, our week was “moderate” with a few challenging parts because of hiking on snow. Local transportation was by taxi. The pick up and drop off to Barcelona airport worked beautifully. We had a fantastic week and highly recommend booking this trip!

Spectacular Andorra

Andorra is a beautiful country and the Exodus trip perfectly captures the essence of it via the organised walking trips. It is a mountainous area, as such, be prepared for walking at higher altitudes and a reasonable amount of uphill sections, as such, a good personal physical condition is recommended. You will be rewarded with spectacular scenery and panoramic views of the area. Alfonso is an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable of the area and attentive to the needs of the group with impeccable organisation to ensure everyone gets the maximum enjoyment from the trip. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary then I would highly recommend this trip.

5 star hiking and safari experience

Our group of 5 people had an unforgettable Tanzania adventure with Kilisa Tours & Safaris, combining a 5-day mountain hiking experience with a 4-day Tanzania wildlife safari. From the first communication to the end of the trip, everything was professionally organized and exceeded our expectations. We booked our hiking trip with Kilisa Tours because of their strong reputation for Mount Kilimanjaro trekking and Tanzania safari tours, and they truly delivered exceptional service. The mountain guides, porters, and cook were highly experienced, friendly, and very supportive throughout the trek. The team made sure we were safe, motivated, and comfortable every day on the mountain. The safari portion of our trip was equally amazing. Our safari guide was knowledgeable about Tanzania wildlife, national parks, and local culture. During the 4-day safari, we experienced incredible game drives and saw many animals in their natural habitat. The safari vehicle was comfortable, clean, and perfect for photography and wildlife viewing. What makes Kilisa Tours & Safaris stand out among Tanzania tour operators is their excellent customer service, fast communication, attention to detail, and well-planned itineraries. Every transfer, accommodation, and activity was arranged smoothly, making our Tanzania holiday stress-free and enjoyable. If you are looking for the best Tanzania safari company, Mount Kilimanjaro trekking operator, or a reliable local tour company in Tanzania, we highly recommend Kilisa Tours & Safaris. They provided us with a true 5-star hiking and safari experience, and we would definitely book with them again in the future.
