Helsinki Tour Reviews

Guest reviews from travelers on tours in and around Helsinki

It was a wonderful trip. The only criticism I have is one of the hotels didn’t have air conditioning. We opened the window, but it was really loud and it allowed all the cigarette smoke from the street into our room.

This was an excellent trip in two beautiful countries. The hotel in Helsinki was a bit out of town and quite basic although close to a tram to reach town centre. Helsinki exceeded my expectations and the walks were lovely and could benefit from an extra day here. We could have done with some extra time to explore Turku so perhaps have a trip solely in Finland. The “ferry” to the Åland islands was an experience - it was more like a mini cruise. The islands were beautiful and lots to see and do. Stockholm is also an interesting city to visit and perhaps an extra day here to do an urban green walk would be useful. Our tour guide Toni was exceptional and he provided invaluable insight into life in the Nordic region and was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area. We had a great driver in Roman too. I would definitely recommend this trip. My tip would be do not bring any Swedish krone as very few shops/ restaurants take cash!

This was an exciting experience and I enjoyed packing in all of the places we visited. Felt like Norway was a short stay but also not sure what else there would have been to do. Didn't seem like there was much of an old historic part for shopping. The 2 bus ride days were long but made the ride fun and informative. had the trip planned very well and did a great job at adhering to the schedule.

Good coverage but travel director made the difference in bringing additional information to travellers , keeping us well engaged through out the trip. Restaurants well appointed and recommendations that enabled us to sample local cuisine

Five countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia) claim to be the happiest place in the world. On this trip, you will discover that each country has legitimate claims to that title. You get to examine those claims in detail by consuming great food, staying at superior hotels, overnight cruising in a modern floating hotel of a ship, and getting a taste of each country’s history and culture - all under the careful guidance of expert local guides and a Tour Director who stays with you all the way, making sure that everything goes as planned. A prefect, care-free way to experience Scandinavia.

My 18 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on our Capitals of Scandinavia tour we went on earlier this month. We ended up going on all of the extra tours that Trafalgar suggested and they were well worth the money. The pace of the trip (staying 2 nights in each city) was perfect for both our ages (18 and 58). The Scandinavian countries are beautiful and clean, and the Nordic people are happy and kind. Not only do I recommend this tour whole-heartedly, but I would go on it again in the near future. My son was celebrating his graduation from high school and I was celebrating my 58th birthday and were so swept up in the moment, that we even got matching tattoos in Stockholm.

Helsinki - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Tour Highlights

  • Northern Europe is known for its penchant for design, and Helsinki’s Design Museum is a venue that perfectly demonstrates these sensibilities. It houses a permanent exhibition that illustrates the influence of local nature and tradition on Finnish design.
  • Kauppatori, or the Market Square, operates from spring to fall. It is one of the most famous open-air markers in Europe, where you can buy local delicacies, souvenirs and flowers.
  • Suomenlinna is a gargantuan fortress built by the Swedish in mid-18 th century. It sprawls across six islands which can be reached by ferry that departs from the Market Square. It also houses the Suomenlinna Museum, which is a must-visit for anyone interested in the history of the region.
  • Linnanmäki Amusement Park is a great way to spend a day in Helsinki if you’re looking for a rush of adrenaline. Opened in 1950, this theme park hosts many dizzying rides, as well as shops and restaurants.

Travel Tips

  • If you plan on discovering the city outside of organized tours, you might want to invest in a Helsinki Card. With this card, you will have free access to public transport, but also free admission to many popular tourists sights, including the Suomenlinna Fortress. Moreover, Helsinki Card provides discounts for many shops, cafés and restaurants in the city.
  • The Finnish capital is infamous for its frigid weather, so if you want to avoid sub-zero temperatures, try to time your visit between the months of May and September.
