Itinerary #1: Cycling in North Vietnam

After checking in at your hotel in Hanoi, you can spend the rest of the day visiting the main landmarks of the capital city. On the second day, enjoy a traditional Vietnamese lunch with a local family at a village in Mai Chau and cycle past the lovely rice paddies. The next day, you’ll bike in the picturesque countryside of Nho Quan and through the 222 square kilometer Cuc Phuong National Park, one of Vietnam’s earliest protected zones. Then keep cycling through scenic country lanes, crossing gorgeous green rice fields, till you reach Tam Coc. On the fourth day, discover the unique way of navigating flooded paddy fields on a traditional flat-bottomed sampan in Tam Coc, a boat trip that will take you to the three caves Hang Ca, Hang Giua, and Hang Con. Spend 4 days in Vietnam hiking the popular lakes and interacting with the local communities with this itinerary. The Dao people are one of the ethnic groups living around the national park. Their villages are usually perched on the hills surrounding the lake. After arriving in Ba Be, you’ll trek to a Dao village and learn about their agricultural practices and how they collect medicinal herbs. Ba Be is a water system of three connected lakes, which you will explore on the third day. This boat trip includes popular spots like Puong Cave (home to thousands of bats), Dau Dang Waterfall with its multiple cascades, and the recently renovated An Ma Temple on an islet in the lake.
