Patagonia and Argentina Trip through Maria’s Eyes
Dive into Maria’s reflections as she shares why she chose a group tour, how it felt to explore Argentina as a senior traveler, and the unforgettable moments that made this “end of the world” adventure truly special.
Q: What made you choose a group tour?
A: The sharing of experiences and the good company from different parts of the world.
Q: The trip you booked was a guided tour. How did it feel to travel with a guide on this tour? Would you travel with a guide again? Why or why not?
A: Yes, I would travel again. It is great to have a Chief Experience Officer. It gives an additional value to the trip
Q: Who were you traveling with?
A: Family. I was traveling with my niece.
Q: How was it joining a trip to Argentina as a senior (60+ age range) traveler? Would you recommend this destination to other senior travelers, and why?
A: I recommend it because it is comfortable, relaxing, and full of experiences.
Q: You booked what we deem a luxury tour. What made you select a luxury tour?
A: The completeness of the program.
Q: Did the tour meet your expectations given the higher price point? Why or why not?
A: Everything went smoothly and the natural landscapes were wonderful.
Q: Were there any parts of the trip that surprised you in terms of quality or value?
A: Villa Serrano at the Torres del Paine.
Q: Would you recommend Bookmundi’s luxury tours to other travelers?
A: Of course, they are really special.
Q: What made you choose this trip, and was it for a special occasion?
A: The end of the world (Ushuaia) and the unique nature.
Q: Which destinations, cities, or highlights did you cover on your trip, and which stood out the most?
A: At the Perito Moreno Glacier you feel a sense of awe; the boat trip to Martillo Island in Ushuaia and the encounter with the penguins are unique experiences, and the small towns of Bariloche and Puerto Varas are wonderfully scenic.
Q: What was a memorable moment or story from your journey that you’d like to highlight?
A: A memorable moment was the famed Andean Lakes Crossing, connecting Argentina and Chile through a network of volcano-lined, crystal-clear lakes. The weather was sunny and the view was fantastic. The combination of boat and bus rides gives a playful feeling. The whole trip was also unforgettable because I was traveling with my beloved niece.
Q: What were your favorite activities or excursions, and why?
A: Petrohue River Rafting in Puerto Varas, Bariloche Horseback Riding, very exciting — your mind, soul, and body come together in a moment of harmony with nature
Q: Did you try any local food or cultural experiences that you would recommend?
A: King crab in Ushuaia at the restaurant El Viejo Marino; in El Calafate, the restaurant Parrilla Mi Viejo for Patagonian lamb, ice cream Rapanui in Bariloche, food in Villa Serrano in Torres del Paine; stories about mate tea, which is traditionally shared among friends; Mapuche culture reflected in handmade crafts and traditions;
Q: Did you have any unique interactions with locals, guides, or fellow travelers that made your trip special?
A: Gabi, the CEO, was excellent — always willing, with a great sense of humor, providing all necessary information and a reassuring presence. All the fellow travelers were kind, and we shared travel experiences, especially during meals together. The local guides were also incredibly knowledgeable, with a deep understanding of their region and field.
Q: Did this trip change your perspective on the destination, travel, or life in any way?
A: This trip introduced me to unique places, once again showed me the power of nature, and the culture of Latin America — both of immigrants and indigenous peoples. It made me realize that I have traveled a lot, and yet the whole world feels like a tiny village
Q: What was the biggest surprise you encountered during your trip to Argentina (positive or unexpected)?
A: I have been there again (north) but this time south, it is a different world, the many contrasts of the landscape, and the local culture — a rich mix of indigenous traditions and immigrant influences — is fascinating, a vast country you want to visit again
Q: Looking back, what was the best part of your entire journey? Do you have a day of your trip that you'd like to relive?
A: Everything was amazing, but perhaps the day at Perito Moreno Glacier, with the cracking of the ice, felt like a moment when the Earth itself was breathing, and I was there as a witness.
Q: What would you say to someone considering this tour or destination?
A: Do not think more!! It is a great tour which reveals some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth.
Q: Any funny or unexpected stories from your trip you’d like to share?
A: The rafting experience on the Petrohué River in Puerto Varas was unforgettable, especially since it was my first time rafting and I was thrilled. I even jumped off a rock, and I remember our guide, Kami, encouraging me, shouting ‘big jump!’ The feeling of the rushing water and descending the river will stay with me forever
Q: Any tips or things you wish you’d known before going on this trip?
A: Allowing more time at the Perito Moreno Glacier.
