Had the most wonderful family experience making core memories. Enjoyed by my family ranging from age 6 to 78. Cannot say enough great things about , our guide who made us feel welcome, safe, comfortable and was always one step ahead with information. He was complemented by a wonderful team of local guides each excited to share their culture and knowledge. Highlights were the food, tango, walking along the beach, sunrises in Rio, Christ the Redeemer (not too crowded), and the mist of Iguasu falls.

Fantastic experience

We had a fantastic experience with the team planning for our first trip to Chile! Claudia organized an incredible trip, including Santiago, Valparaiso, and then domestic flights to San Pedro de Atacama and Patagonia. We had the most magical trip and appreciated the thoughtful planning and considerations to help us make the most of our vacation! We also loved working with Joaquina from the Customer Service Team, who took care of us throughout all of our adventures! Even when one of our flights was canceled (due to bad weather), Joaquina jumped in to help us find alternate options. We highly recommend the team and would love to work with them again in the future! 💫

Amazing Trip! Fitted in so much in the 10 days with our Itinerary while still having free time to fit in our own activites. Got to experience the best of each place.

The trip was awesome with stunning landscapes of desert canyons, inca archaeological sites, salt flats and the unique geological formations of red sand and wind covered canyons in the valley of the moon, Atacama Desert. Every day had a unique and unforgettable experience with unbelievable nature views at their best. The tour leader Andreas attended to everyone's needs and questions with patience and humor. His knowledge about the local setup and different cultural norms across the 3 countries was very helpful. The drivers and local guides at every destination were very efficient, especially driving on Bolivia's salt flats is no easy task. The guides interchanged the days itinerary while visiting argentina's salt flats to get folks acclimatized to the high altitude which was a bonus. The accomodation in all the locations was clean and comfortable. There were just 6 of us on this trip and 2 SUVS was more than enough for all us to view the salt flats and its stunning scenery at leisure. The food was decent at all the restaurants recommended by Andreas and one could get a taste of the local cuisine and different culinary flavors in each country. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who is looking for something different and loves nature.

My first trip with Explore and, even though they’d been recommended by close friends, they exceeded my expectations. Customer care from the very start was exemplary and pre-departure information was clear, timely and comprehensive. The itinerary is very well chosen, with stunning landscapes, cultural variety and a good range of activities. It’s hard to pick highlights as there were so many but walking in the Humuaca Gorge, the incredible Uyuni salt flats and early morning Tatio volcanic geysers, and opportunities to view the stunning southern hemisphere night sky in clear and very dark conditions really stood out for me. The trip lives up to its “full on” billing - expect early starts, cold high altitude weather (down to -15C), and long days in the vehicles but you’ll be paid back amply in rich experiences. Tour leader Andres was second to none in knowledge, attention to detail and enthusiasm and the local guides were all first rate too.

Traveling to Argentina and Chile: An Overview

Planning your tour to Argentina and Chile? We've got all the essentials to help you make the right choices, from transportation options to tips, to trip highlights.

Getting from Argentina and Chile

One of the most common ways to travel between Argentina and Chile is by crossing the majestic Andes Mountains, a natural border that separates the two countries. The awe-inspiring Los Libertadores Pass, linking Mendoza in Argentina to Santiago in Chile, is a popular route for road trips and takes approximately 5 hours. Traveling by bus is also popular; the most commonly used routes include Buenos Aires to Santiago (about 23 hours) and Bariloche to Puerto Montt (6 hours).

For those seeking swifter passage, consider taking a flight. Major cities in Argentina, such as Buenos Aires and Mendoza, are well-connected to cities in Chile, including Santiago and Valparaíso. The flight duration is roughly 2 hours, making it a convenient option for travelers with time constraints.

You can also travel from Argentina to Chile by cruise ship, from ports like Buenos Aires or Ushuaia to cities like Valparaíso or Punta Arenas in Chile. This option provides a unique and scenic journey along the southern coast.
For adventurous travelers, cycling or hiking across the Andes is also an option. There are several trails and routes, but they require careful planning and are best suited for experienced outdoor enthusiasts.

Best Time to Visit Argentina and Chile

Visit at the right time to make the most of your Argentina and Chile tours. For those looking to explore Argentina's vibrant cities like Buenos Aires and Mendoza, or indulge in its famous wine regions, the ideal time is during the spring (September to November) or fall (March to May) when the weather is mild, and the crowds are thinner.

In contrast, Patagonia's pristine landscapes are best enjoyed during the southern hemisphere's summer (December to February) when trekking and outdoor activities are at their peak. Remember that popular destinations may be busier during this period, so plan your accommodations and activities in advance. Chile shares a similar climate, with its northern regions being pleasant year-round and the southern parts, including Patagonia and Torres del Paine, being most accessible and awe-inspiring during the summer.

If you prefer quieter travel, lower prices, or winter activities, the low season is your best bet. Winter, from June to August, offers incredible opportunities for skiing and snowboarding in the Andes Mountains.

  • Prepare for Patagonia's unpredictable weather, including strong winds, rain, and snow even in summer. Pack layers, waterproof clothing, and sturdy footwear for adaptable comfort.
