Belize was the one country I'd not visited in Central America, and it did not disappoint. As a keen photographer, it provided many opportunities to catch wildlife in action, and to see many Mayan ruins. Having been to many of the larger Mayan sites, I'd saved Tikal for last, and it turned out to be a must-see, even better then anticipated. Our guide Justin was great.

A really excellent trip that was well paced. Some excellent wildlife encounters including a swim with nurse sharks, a manatee with her calf and amazing bird life. Interesting Mayan sites, with the trip to Tikal being a stand-out. Our guide, Justin, was outstanding. The accommodation was mostly good, although the Sea Soray in Placencia was very poor.

Excellent trip. Leader was also excellent. Very good blend of archeological sites, wildlife, coastal sites and nature. Accommodation was situated in very good spots, but a couple of them were of moderate quality.

We loved our trip to Belize. Our tour leader, Wilfred, was fantastic, giving us so much local information & he was excellent company too. Whilst we didn't fancy climbing the steep steps of the Mayan temples, we did enjoy sitting in the sunshine, watching the many birds & the iguanas. Iguanas have wonderful local names - Wish ***** & Bamboo Chicken! I went to see the wildlife & bird life. We saw Black Howler Monkeys & Spider Monkeys, really noisy & acrobatically performing in the trees above us. In the jaguar reserve we saw 30+ White Lipped Peccaries which crossed the trail in front of us. I clocked up 85 different species of birds which were identified - the boat trips on the lagoon & rivers were a highlight. Whilst we didn't participate in snorkelling, it was possible to see Nurse Sharks & Barracudas, as well as lots of smaller fish off the back of the boat.

Recommend Belize Reef & Ruins

Joined a group of six, delightful Brits and our extremely capable, watchful and kind guide Jorge for our adventure in Belize. Culturally this was a tour that gave us daily opportunities to enjoy and experience Belizian and Guatamalean history, Mayan civilization , natural beauty and current social/political/environmental environments. Our trip was 1/19-1/30. Just about perfect amount of time to explore with 3 home bases that lent well to the itinerary and our comfort. As a fit 69 and 78 year old couple we found the daily pace comfortable. Though speaking of comfort know that the daily transportation, across pot hole filled roads, is a 10 passenger van which is ok if you are slight of build but if you are over weight or taller than 5' 9" you will not be comfortable on the 2 to 3 hour drives. Climate Change - its here and its real both in the USA and Belize. Our trip was 1/19-1/30/25 and we had a lot of rain. Ones experience is best if you have packed for that wet weather and we did. Disappointed with lack of waste water treatment facilities at Caye Caulker. Several times during our visit we heard local references to the use of the Caribbean as one huge toilet. Snorkeling revealed strain on the coral. Due to flooding at Birds Eye View Lodge was closed to our group and instead we had accommodations at the Black Orchid which was lovely. Cahal Pech Location atop a hill overlooking San Ignacio makes for fantastic views. Walks to town never happened due to all day downpour on our free day.

Highly recommend Charlie the Traveler!

My husband and I highly recommend Charlie the Traveler. We decided to honeymoon in Belize and we booked our 10 day trip through Tour Radar. Charlie called me after we booked and we talked for about 30 minutes about Belize and all the things to do. Evelyn (with Charlie the Traveler) sent us our itinerary 2 weeks before our trip and it was jam packed with adventures: cave tubing, cave canoeing, snorkeling, visiting the Mayan ruins including a massive cave adventure, the zoo, and more. Our tour guide in country, Valentin, was incredibly knowledgeable, punctual, professional, and funny. We felt very safe and taken care of. Evelyn remained available if we needed anything during the trip. We would use Charlie the Traveler again for another trip!
