Step off the beaten path and take a walking food tour into the heart of old Shanghai. Discover the city’s vanishing shanty towns, vibrant food streets, and historic neighborhoods before they fade into memory. Begin your journey with a breakfast tasting along a bustling street—egg pancakes, sticky rice rolls, and traditional soybean milk await. Opt for an afternoon tour to sample Shanghai’s famous noodles with a variety of toppings.
Wander through the Bird Market, explore surviving old houses, and stroll beside the ancient city wall on your way to the Confucius Temple. There, enjoy a traditional tea ceremony, sampling up to five varieties of tea in a serene setting.
This walking tour’s unique appeal lies in its authentic slice-of-life encounters and food experiences, offering a taste of traditional Shanghai for curious travelers and culinary enthusiasts.
Lynn, the tour guide, was amazing! Felt like a relaxing morning walking around and talking to a friend. The insect market was very interesting, but the highlight for me was Confucius Temple and the Tea ceremony - its a must try while in Shanghai. Definitely recommend the tour!
Excellent tour with Cindy, precisely what I wanted: see a few authentic places without feeling like a tourist, and being taken care of wonderfully by a local. Also, even after the tour, I could ask Cindy for advice and recommendations and she was very helpful. I highly recommend this tour.
In Shanghai, you will see skyscrapers and the Bund, but Shanghai has more to offer. Try Cindy's tour and immerse yourself in cultural quirks like stories about cricket fighting, common people's housings that contrast the skyscrapers, and a tour through the cultural rich Confucius-Temple. While at it, you will eat tremendous, delicious food and receive a memorable tea ceremony. Highly recommended if you want to experience a different Shanghai. Thank you Cindy!
Walking through the old streets in Shanghai with a few foods tasting across the way, and a visit to the traditional markets, as well as tea ceremony on Confucius temple, we learnt about its philosophy. The guide was an excellent communicator and was very understanding.
