Spend eight days discovering southern Vietnam’s highlights, from the buzz of Ho Chi Minh City to the laid-back charm of Phu Quoc Island. You’ll explore Saigon’s historic sites, learn about the Vietnam War at poignant museums, and cruise the waterways of the Mekong Delta. Then fly to Phu Quoc for three days of beach time, relaxation and seafood feasts. End with an included flight back to Ho Chi Minh City.
Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City. On arrival, you will be collected at Tan Son Nhat International Airport and transferred to your hotel (check in is from 14:00). Your first evening in the city also known as Saigon is at leisure.
Saigon - officially known as Ho Chi Minh City - is Vietnam’s largest and most dynamic metropolis. As the country’s economic powerhouse, it combines modern energy with a rich and often turbulent history. Your guided sightseeing tour begins at the Reunification Palace, the former residence of the President of South Vietnam. Here, you will learn about the events leading up to the fall of Saigon in 1975 and the end of the Vietnam War.
You then visit the War Remnants Museum, established in September 1975 and originally named the Museum of American War Crimes. Its exhibitions include photographs, documents, and artefacts that record the human and environmental cost of the war, as well as displays of military vehicles such as planes, tanks, bombs, and helicopters.
Your final stop is the Notre-Dame Cathedral, a neo-Romanesque masterpiece built between 1877 and 1883 using materials imported from France. It remains one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and a key centre of Catholicism in Vietnam. Please note: the cathedral is currently under renovation, so we will view it from the outside only. After today's tour, you will be transferred back to the hotel.
Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong Delta - Ho Chi Minh City. This morning, you travel south to the Mekong Delta for a full day exploring its maze of waterways and local cottage industries. On arrival in Ben Tre, board a river boat and make a stop at a traditional brick factory to see how clay bricks are moulded and fired using age-old methods.
You continue along the canal to visit a coconut processing workshop, followed by a family-run business where women weave traditional sleeping mats. There’s time to enjoy fresh tropical fruit and tea, and chat with the locals.
Leaving the waterways behind, take a motor cart (xe lôi) along quiet, shaded roads, passing rice fields and vegetable plots where farmers tend their crops. A home-cooked lunch is served with a local family in Ben Tre, offering a glimpse into rural life.
Afterwards, return to the water by row boat for a gentle cruise along palm-lined creeks. Later in the afternoon, you return to the pier, where your vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc. It's time to leave Saigon as you are transferred to the airport for your included flight south to the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc, located off the coast of Cambodia. On arrival, transfer to the hotel.
With three free days on Phu Quoc Island, you have time to explore at your own pace, enjoying the island’s blend of pristine beaches, natural beauty and cultural charm.
You might begin with a relaxing day at Sao Beach, known for its soft white sand and clear, shallow waters - ideal for swimming or simply unwinding. A beachfront lunch of fresh seafood is a great way to sample the local flavours. In the afternoon, you could treat yourself to a massage at one of the island’s spas or spend some time by the pool. Come evening, the Dinh Cau Night Market in Duong Dong offers a lively mix of food stalls, souvenirs and local life.
Another day might be spent discovering the island’s nature and heritage. A boat trip to the An Thoi Archipelago gives you the chance to snorkel among coral reefs or even try diving in the warm, clear sea. If you prefer to stay on land, Phu Quoc National Park offers opportunities for light trekking or a guided walk through lush tropical forest - part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Later, you could visit the Phu Quoc Prison Museum for a sobering look at the island’s wartime past, followed by a stop at a local pepper farm or fish sauce factory to see how two of the island’s most famous products are made.
For your final day, you might head to Ho Quoc Pagoda - a peaceful spot perched on a hill with sweeping views of the coastline. From there, it’s a short drive to Ham Ninh Fishing Village, where traditional stilt houses stretch out into the sea and the crab is as fresh as it gets. In the afternoon, there’s time to relax at Long Beach or enjoy a drink at a rooftop bar while watching the sunset. If you’re looking to end the day with something a little different, you could book a sunset cruise or join a local night squid fishing tour.
Phu Quoc - Ho Chi Minh City. Your tour comes to an end today. After breakfast and hotel check-out, a driver will collect you and take you to the airport for your included flight back to Ho Chi Minh City. Your tour ends on arrival.
