Overall, the trip hit the highlights of Northern California - exactly what we were looking for!
This itinerary had a very good sampling of what Northern California offers. From San Francisco to Sonoma, Lake Tahoe to Yosemite to Monterey we sampled a wide variety of places and experiences.
We are both 85 and would have preferred a motel room closer to the main building or at least baggage assistance We loved the redwoods and would have liked to stay there longer. We also appreciated the talk by the criterial expert could not have done a better job. She was fun, informed, and we would love to travel with her anytime. our driver was also outstanding and made us feel safe
It was all very fun! Loved walking across the Golden Gate, the director *personal info removed by Feefo* and bus driver *personal info removed by Feefo* were excellent, the hotels were fabulous, the winery/Ag tour/Happy Girl were outstanding ! The only thing I would change is add a half hour -1 hr to the Mariposa stop and Yosemite stop near Bridal Veil falls( for more time to get to the museum and enjoy).
I’m going to write a separate letter detailing the issues. The short story is that , the bus driver, was excellent across the board but the tour director , struggled throughout.
You’ve been cutting corners. No airport pick up anymore. You cut out breakfast items. Toast yogurt etc. Hotel in Santa Rosa needs major rehab. Location was so so. Tahoe we had 1 hr at lake. Boat tour would have been a great excursion. Trip was average compared to previous year’s experience with Trafalgar
People really wanted to see the sites of Tahoe and Yosemite and we spent way too little time there. It would have been nice to get there early and maybe have a boat ride in Tahoe. Spent too much time hanging out in very disappointing Sacramento, and Sonoma. The train museum in Sacramento, several people went to and they said it was fantastic. It cost 15.00 and another tour group was going through and it was paid for by the tour. The walk over the Golden Gate Bridge was wonderful! As well as the tour of SF. The winery was lovely. The hotels were great but really didn't get to spend much time at them as we always arrived late and things to do were limited. The breakfast offered was the same every day, could have been better, the dinner's offered were very good. The Chinatown tour was too much with 44 people and keeping them all together. Liked the agricultural tour it was great! On other Trafalgar tours we saw movies and talked about the area we were going to this did not happen on this tour, not much detail. On my other Trafalgar tours, the guides were great and very knowledgeable about the areas and done these tours many times. This was not the case on this trip. Something was off and it just didn't seem like a fabulous tour like the Trafalgar tours I have taken in the past.
This is a very fast moving tour and you have basically no downtime and the resorts or hotels you stay in. The one day we started breakfast at 7 and returned to the hotel at 10. Also, don't plan on seeing the General Sherman tree at Yosemite. Our tour guide took us on the shorter route. This was one of the main reasons I booked the trip. Overall, the amount of things we saw was great, but we felt rushed and if you were not in the front of the "pack" you did not hear the tour information. Monterey was awesome and so was the Sonoma valley!
This itinerary had everything we wanted to experience in Northern California and Yosemite National Park. The 8 days was perfect and covered several bucket list items such as the Golden Gate bridge, El Capetian, the sequoias and redwoods. What an extraordinary trip. Thanks again to Trafalgar tour director for making this another memorable trip for us.
The itinerary was wonderful, got to see some unexpected sites that were amazing.
Exremely busy itinerary. Up at 6 am for breakfast at 7 and on the road by 8 am EVERY DAY. Some days not returning to the hotel until 10 PM. For me, this is way too much.
It had great sights and interesting locals
Overall, we enjoyed our trip, but are undecided about future domestic coach tours. Enjoyed the sites we visited but frequently felt rushed to return to bus to stay on schedule. Driver and trip director were professional and service-oriented. Director provided fun and informative facts about areas we were traveling through. Meals we were provided were exellent. Breakfasts were a little repetitive. Would appreciate more bread, fruit, and yogurt options. Accommodations were good to excellent overall, with exception of the resort at Tahoe, which we felt was poorly researched. Site was under construction, staff unresponsive, and room had not been thoroughly cleaned. Don't generally enjoy gambling venues. Give entire trip a B to B+.
Get a taste of the Golden State on this tour of Northern California. Explore California icons: Yosemite National Park, the iconic Redwoods, and serene Lake Tahoe. Try Sonoma Valley wines and a farm-to-table meal in Monterey.
