Travel through the heart of South Africa in search of the Big 5. On this ten-day trip, we'll delve into some of the country's most iconic national parks, including Kruger, hoping to spot the bounty of wildlife that calls these varied landscapes home. Along the way, immerse yourself in the history of the Zulu battlefield, explore the wetlands of St Lucia and rub shoulders with the Swazi people in Eswatini.
Kruger National Park - Get the chance to spot the Big 5 on a game drive in Kruger - one of Africa's biggest game reserves.
Hluhluwe iMfolozi - Explore the game reserve which has the biggest rhino population in Africa.
Mlilwane - Get closer to South Africa's wildlife on an intimate walking safari in this secluded sanctuary beneath the Nyonyane Mountains.
Extremely long drives on the Kruger and Eswatini part of this trip, made many of the days long and tiring. Wonderful locations, but not always enough time to fully appreciate them. The Garden Route part is a much gentler, with shorter distances allowing time to enjoy the beauty of South Africa. The scenery throughout the tour is stunning, especially in the Drakensberg and along the coast on the Garden Route. Wildlife is dependent on weather conditions, but some good sightings.
A tour of 2 different halves. The first half is full on with early starts and long days but worth every moment in terms of the scenery and wildlife we saw- seeing Leopards and Lions so close in their natural habitat was a huge highlight for me as was staying the beehives in Mlilwane. I do think this tour would be better if was extended by 2 days to allow a break up of the drive between Drakensberg and St Lucia, maybe an overnight somewhere near Dundee to allow more time to explore battlefields area and museums. And add also an additional night in Graskop, so that there was more time to explore and hike in the area and leave a quicker straight drive back to Joberg on the final day. Part 2 from Cape Town was more relaxed pace with another fabulous itinerary. Tour guides- Samantha in part 1 and Werner in part 2 both were happy, approachable, friendly, informative and always willing to go the extra mile to make the tour fabulous and ensure everyone felt included. A shout out to both drivers too as I felt in very safe hands at all times. This combined tour was worth every penny for experiencing just how varied SA is as a country.
Our trip leader Samantha was outsanding and went above and beyond in making sure everyone had a great time and everyone's needs were taken care of. She was attentive, energetic, caring, knowledgeable and funny! She really made our trip that much more amazing!
Chantel was tour guide on second part of trip - she was outstanding
Even though 18 could go on this trip I think 16 should be the maximum
