Snorkel and swim over coral reefs in the Caribbean
Discover Belize is a 13-day active and outdoor tour that showcases the country’s dazzling diversity—from Maya ruins at Xunantunich and Lamanai to the lush jungles of Tikal and the white sands of Caye Caulker. Perfect for experienced travelers, this small group trip features wildlife spotting (monkeys, toucans, crocodiles), snorkeling in the Belize Barrier Reef, and immersion in local cultures. Accommodation, meals, and seamless transport are included, creating a hassle-free adventure. The unique highlight: the blend of ancient history, thriving ecosystems, and Caribbean relaxation, making this trip an all-in-one Belize experience.
Really enjoyed the itinerary of this trip and would recommend to anyone thinking of visiting Belize. Highlights for me were the snorkelling trips in laughing cay and Caye caulker. Tikal was also a highlight and worth travelling over the border for. I would have liked an extra day at the jungle lodge here as it’s a beautiful place to stay. Justin our guide was great and kept us well informed and on time for every part of our trip. Some of the accommodation could be better considering the cost of the tour but the locations of all the accommodation was great. If you can it’s worth spending longer in Caye Caulker at the end of the trip. Be prepared that Belize is an expensive country to travel in.
Exceded expectations. Very varied accommodation, itinerary and experiences. Brilliant leader
Very enjoyable trip with a nice mix of activities. The Mayan sites were amazing (especially Tikal). Our visits were timed to avoid the crowds. I also enjoyed the wildlife aspects of the trip. The optional snorkelling trips were brilliant. We had a great guide (Wilfred) who was a mine of information and also had an incredible ability to spot birds and other wildlife. The first 2 hotels after Belize City are on the basic side but they are clean and comfortable. What they lack in amenities is more than compensated by their amazing locations.
Explore always delivers a good itinerary, accommodation & tour leader. Ocassionally compromises have to be made but there is always a valid reason.
The guide was great and moved us from place to place with great timing to see the best sights. The accommodations were okay, a couple were not what I would expect based on the cost of the trip. And our transport did not have AC for the first few days - since I had to sit in the back, it did become quite uncomfortable.
Busy itinerary to cram so much into a short time. Great to visit so many places and moving accommodation wasn't an issue (the secret is to pack light). Bird watching and wild life spotting were the highlights of the trip. Definitely worth the effort of travelling over the border to visit Tikal and experience the Jungle Lodge. Found the guide lacked charisma and emotional intelligence. Maybe better suited to leading tours of school children rather than highly motivated adults.
The leader Wilfred was excellent- one of the best ever. Friendly, knowledgeable and very hard working. The Mayan sites, Altun Ha and Tikal were wonderful, Lamanai less so with too many visitors from cruises. The wildlife was a bit disappointing, but we didn't expect to see a jaguar! Butterfly farm very good, especially with humming birds. The (optional) snorkelling trip on the last day was excellent, with three separate sites on the reef and a huge range of fish, plus turtles, rays, nurse sharks and moray eels. And a good lunch. The hotels, luckily, improved each time. The first Bird's Eye Lodge, was not acceptable- a small dark smelly room, and disappointing food. The second, Sea Spray, was a little better but lacked basic facilities. I would classify neither as 'comfortable' hotels. Cahal Pech was good, Jungle Lodge lovely. The other main issue, however, was the minibus. We had problems with the air conditioning on the first, and its replacement was cramped and uncomfortable. So a mixed experience, with great highs and a few lows.
Discovery Belize offered a great variety of opportunities to see Mayan sites, wildlife and the culture of Belize in Guatemala. The my insights got bigger and better with each site and it may be worth noting that at Tikal that there are steps to help you ascend the top of the site but there are 200 of them. The wildlife on this tour was wonderful with spider monkeys and howler monkeys in the jungle at Tikal alongside many other animals. The trip to the butterfly reserve was fascinating and the addition of all the different types of hummingbirds made this a very special outing. The snorkeling trip at laughing bird caye was just the starting point with a large variety of marine life seen, but the second trip from caye caulker was extraordinary, the coral garden was beautiful with vast numbers of fish swimming among the coral, shark. Ray Ally was extraordinary with the number of sharks and rays swimming around us being breathtaking and the final snorkel of the day was possibly the most special as we met a sea turtle. Our guide. Justin Wiltshire went above and beyond to ensure that our group had a fantastic trip and was always on hand to sort any minor issues out. Justin ensured that our whole group had the best possible experience of the cultures of Belize and Guatemala.
Let’s be clear - this is a great 2-week holiday and includes one of the highlights of Guatemala. It’s very well-balanced, comprising as it does three elements - Mayan sites/history (the best being at Tikal), great wildlife (on earth, sea and in the air) and finally two days out on the Cayes, by boat (few people know Belize has part of the world’s second-largest barrier reef!). The balance between those 3 elements could be tweaked but that is a matter of opinion and for another time…… The accommodation was excellent, with one exception (Sea Spray Hotel), the food was better than we had expected, also with one exception (at the Cahal Pech Hotel) and the beers and cocktails of high quality! Our guide (Tarique) kept us all safe and on track with admirable energy and good-humour!
The itinerary was very varied taking in Mayan temples, bird watching, jungle hiking, snorkelling, beaches, canoeing, and more. The hotels aren’t luxurious but have character and are in fabulous locations. Very lucky with our guide Wilfred. Knowledgeable and organised with a sense of humour. Great trip to discover Belize
I really enjoyed this holiday, it was a great mixture of culture and wildlife. The food was lovely.
I have been on many Explore trips and this trip is one of the very best. It has something for everyone- Mayan ruins, Wildlife in abundance, snorkelling and canoeing. The food on offer in Belize is delicious ( as are the cocktails) . Tarique our tour leader was fantastic- well organised, knowledgeable , caring and tremendous fun. I would thoroughly recommend this trip.
This was an extremely well organised tour with a varied itinerary. The accommodation was much better than expected especially those hotels located by the beach. Tarique the Guide was knowledgeable, organised and great fun. I thoroughly recommend this holiday.
Explore are a great company which is why we’ve used them almost every year since 2012. Tarique the tour leader on this Belize trip was actually amazing- friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and an all round cool guy who made the trip for everyone on the tour. He went out of his way to make sure the annoying vegan (me)… had something decent to eat wherever we went - which was hugely appreciated. The mix of temples, jungle, water adventures, wildlife and snorkelling were so good in this country so I highly recommend this tour!
