This 11-day guided tour whisks you through scenic Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands. In Luxembourg, indulge in a farm-to-table feast at the horse-stables-turned-restaurant L'Écurie du Parc, then stroll past the 12th-Century Clervaux Castle after dinner. Climb to the top of the star-shaped Mardasson Monument for a birds-eye view of the fields where the World War II’s Battle of the Bulge was fought. Cruise through Amsterdam’s canal district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sailing past 16th-Century merchant houses and the iconic Magere Brug — the skinny, white-painted wood bridge over the Amstel River. Later, join a Local Expert at the Rijksmuseum, where you can view Rembrandt's ‘Night Watch’, and see a shoemaker whittle wood into traditional clogs.
It was a great experience, first time for me to take a tour. our guide and the driver were both exceptional. For me personally I would have preferred the guides on the Optional excursions instead of pointing out places of interest and then leaving it up to oneself to actually find them again, was frustrating as I wasn’t brave enough to go on my own to seek them out. As we were staying in the beautiful Chateau it would have been preferable to have our free time back at the Chateau to enjoy their facilities or even go for a walk in the countryside, instead of in town with not much to see or do.
Brugges hotel Radisson Blu is too far from the city centre, 45 minutes to walk through not very nice area. If hotel could not change maybe a shuttle run twice a day.
I enjoyed the trip but the one thing I didn’t like was you had one excursion and the rest of the afternoon was free time which meant if you wanted to do something you had to pay for an optional excursion. The bus, driver and tour director was great. Just plan on spending a lot more money than you thought.
I enjoyed the history of the wars.
We loved the drives through country roads and the beautiful scenery. The variety of optional excursions was well-planned and appealed to nearly everyone on the tour. We felt it was a well-balanced itinerary with plenty of time on our own for shopping and dining and exploring. We never felt rushed and departure times were not too early and evening activity arrival times were not too late. Having 2 or more nights at each hotel made it a more relaxed trip.
Very relaxed pace and lots of extra activities that were all very good. Short drive times and spectacular hotel selections as well.
Good pace. Nice accomadations.
Very educational for covering historical wars and medieval cities. Food was great and so were the guides. Accomodations were great as well. Would have appreciated visiting one or two Jewish synagogues as part of the itinerary rather than as optional. The optional German city of Trier was the only part of the itinerary that I found to be uninteresting. Would recommend the trip overall.
the tour was well organized and we were well attended to by our tour director.
More choices should be included. I felt cheated on the amount of money spent on optional excursions.
There are many extra excursions that you have to pay for and you don't find out about them until a few weeks before your trip. There is a lot of walking. Some of the visits feel like tourist traps - Chocolate truffle making lesson at chocolate museum in Brussels was not a chocolate making class; cheese and clog store - owners were crude - like a tourist trap. Pay attention to the hotels, because some of them are not nice and are outside of the city vs. other tours with the same company, stay at the nicer hotels in the nice city. Tour guide was not always helpful in knowing where nice local shopping (not high end name brand stores) was and we wandered aimlessly - estra walking that could have been avoided. Need to watch tour dates because if you are visiting a city during one of their holidays or on Sunday, the stores will be closed. Ypres visit is late in the day and nothing is open - just have to wait for the Last Ceremony. Tour guide rambled a lot and was not always helpful. Chocolate museum in Brussels was busy and hard to go through with the device that you have to put on the wall in order for it to tell you stories about chocolate. Was not convenient or fun. The bus was restricted sometimes, but other times did not drop us off close to where we needed to go. We had to find our way back to the hotel - walk a long ways, taxi, or other public transportation, on at least 3 occasions. Bulk drop off at Amsterdam airport was very far away, when other tour buses were much closer. Dinner in Luxembourg at old stable and dinner in Monnikendam and dinner in Amsterdam restaurant was very good.
well planned and covered many key areas of the Cities we visited. There was sufficient personal time as well. Did not feel rushed.
Flexibility with the program adjusting to the group needs
The itinerary was well paced-it was nice having 2 nights in each city. The 3 nights in Amsterdam was excellent.
Plenty of time to step out on our own in addition to planned itinerary.
We saw a lot and our tour guide was extremely organized!
You do not go to Ann Frank home in Amsterdam or anywhere near it. In Luxembourg, you are miles away from the city and are out in the country with nothing to do. Brussels and Brugge are beautiful and time spent is worth going.
Very good tour through Benelux. Many highlights including Brussels town square, Ghent, Bruges, Bastogne, Luxembourg City, Rotterdam, The Hague and Amsterdam. Some very nice optional excursions including Antwerp, Trier and the windmills. Distances were not too long, so coach time was very manageable. A fine tour that presented the best of each country.
I thought the itinerary included all the highlights of Belgium, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands. It included visits to Brussels, Ghent, Brugge, as well as the historical war sites of Ypres and Waterloo. In the Netherlands a visit to Rotterdam and its harbour and docks, and finally wonderful Amsterdam. There is not much more beyond that in the highlights of these countries.
and our driver were excellent! They made the trip very special on top of a great itinerary. Highly recommend!
There were a lot of add ons that were additional fee. I feel some could have been included in the tour price. Canal tours were amazing. Individual tour guides at the different sites were fantastic. Well informed and engaging
Yes excellent trip. Covered many places of interest to me.
Excellent itinerary. We were able to see so much of Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Luxembourg and The Netherlands than we would ever have been able to d on our own. The addition of an afternoon in Trier, Germany was a very nice bonus.
very good itinerary....probably could have used more time in certain places but all in all, it was a very enjoyable trip.
A perfect mix of interesting visits that would appeal to those interested in WW1 and WW2 history and beautiful European scenic points of interest. A real highlight was the visit to Keukenhof was spectacular. Overall, The food was great!
It is a very full itinerary, so as a traveller you do see and do lots throughout the tour. The accommodation is very good and I particularly like that at least two nights are spent at each accommodation, except for one stay which is one night only.
If you want to go to Anne Frank’s house in Amsterdam you need to book independently a long way ahead, at least 6 weeks, probably more. Advance notice that tipping isn’t included for all local guides. was a fantastic tour director.
The itinerary was nothing about “country roads” . Instead it was going through cities after cities and their ports. There was too much walking to do. The Tour Director wasn’t clear at times when he spoke about the itinerary and the optional excursions in a hotel lobby where there were distractions and noise. It would be better done in the tour coach with the PA system. The visits to cemeteries and battle fields were not attractions for a vacation and I didn’t understand why they were in the itinerary at all. The included meals were quite ordinary unlike others I had experienced in other Insight Vacation tours.
A Truly Enjoyable and Relaxing Tour Experience We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well-organised and relaxing travel experience. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned, allowing us to explore each destination at a comfortable pace without feeling rushed. The hotel we stayed at was strategically located, making it easy to get around. It was not only clean and comfortable, but also served a delicious breakfast each morning — a perfect start to our days. A special mention goes to our tour guide, who was not only caring and incredibly knowledgeable, but also brought a wonderful sense of humour that kept the group engaged and entertained throughout the trip. His passion and attention to detail really made the experience stand out. We were equally impressed with our driver, who was both skilled and considerate. He went out of his way to assist us when getting on and off the bus, and always made sure we were dropped off close to our destinations to minimise walking. Overall, it was a smooth, pleasant, and memorable journey — we’re grateful to & , for making it so special.
I was interested in the locations, but NOT any of the war commemorations - especially NOT the American self-congratulatory excursions. I think they do not belong in a tour of this kind. People should / could participate in a WW2 tour. So there were quite a few excursions I did not participate in for that reason. For me, this tour was about visiting three countries I’ve not previously visited. So this tour did that very well.
Plenty of variety between history and picturesque places.
The tour covered each country comprehensively with many optional excursions to choose from and enhance your holiday. Tour gave ample free time and days were not too long. Tour guide and driver were very knowledgeable and friendly.
It was all done very professional
Great tour with very good content tour director and driver
I always learn so much when I travel. I appreciate the travel director and guides knowledge and wit.
The Title of the itinerary should not be "Country Roads" because visits are at big cities. I was expecting touching base at more outskirts cities in the itinerary.
