day 1 - Nairobi (arrival)
Welcome to Kenya! Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure or, in case of early morning arrival, you may join one of the optional tours.
Overnight in Nairobi
Optional: Half Day Out of Africa Excursion
Important: Possible only with morning arrivals in Nairobi
Clients will be transferred to Eka Hotel for breakfast on their own arrangements before they continue with the excursion. Follow in the footsteps of Karen Blixen as you travel towards the Ngong Hills. You will feel swept immediately onto the film set of Out of Africa the moment you arrive. The old colonial farmhouse is simple, housing a few items that Karen Blixen chose and once enjoyed herself. There are also the colorful gardens to explore, where several old coffee machines have laid untouched for decades. From here you will visit the Giraffe Centre, where the highly endangered Rothschild giraffe lives in peace. With an elevated viewing of the feeding platform, this tour is a wonderful option for children.
Optional: Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage Excursion
Travelers will be transferred to Eka Hotel for breakfast on their own arrangements. From there, they will continue with the excursion. Depart to Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, situated on the outskirts of Nairobi (approximately a 45-minute drive). This Sanctuary is run by Daphne Sheldrick and is set on the grounds of her house. Here, you will see the orphaned animals and meet the people who handle and care for them. This is a fascinating excursion and the team running the orphanage will always be happy to answer any questions visitors have to ask. Upon completion, return to hotel or city centre by approx. 12:45 PM (lunch will not be included). It is suggested that due to demand, visits should be pre-booked. At certain times there may not be any animals in care. Visiting times are limited to approximately one hour and are between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM daily.
day 2 - Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve
Leaving Nairobi after breakfast, you will travel towards Kenya's fertile highlands and head down the rift escarpment on the road built by Italian prisoners during World War II. On the way, you may spot the charming chapel built at the foot of the escarpment. Pass the impressive Longonot earth satellite station as you head across the valley to Narok. Continue your travels across acres of wheat and barley before you reach the Masai Mara in time for lunch. Following lunch set off on your first game drive. Return to the lodge as the sun sets.
Overnight in Masai Mara National Reserve Area
day 3 - Masai Mara National Reserve
Following an early breakfast, depart on a morning game drive. You will return to the camp mid-morning. Crown your game viewing experience in the Mara with a “Bush Breakfast” by the Mara River Hippo Pools. One cannot resist the charming “Jambo” from the chefs and Masai warriors as they welcome you to a wonderful breakfast buffet of cold cuts, fruits, cereals, and hot dishes with eggs made to your specifications. The hippos will keep you company and only say “Kwaheri” (goodbye) after you have had enough. After lunch, and perhaps a siesta set off on another game drive and visit the Masai Village. Return to the lodge as the sun sets.
Overnight in Masai Mara National Reserve Area
day 4 - Masai Mara - Lake Nakuru
Leaving the Masai Mara after breakfast, travel across the ‘breadbasket’ of Kenya, where acres of wheat and barley are scattered across the landscape as you head north to Narok — the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. From there you will travel across the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley, keeping an eye out for herds of giraffes and gazelles as you head up the Mai-Mahiu, before arriving at your destination around midday. Once in the park, view the game en route to the lodge. Following lunch, depart for a game drive, and return to your lodge as the sun sets. The National Park, known for its birdlife, offers a possibility to view flamingoes. It is also home to Black and White rhinos as well as the endangered Rothschild Giraffe.
Overnight in Lake Nakuru Area
day 5 - Lake Nakuru - Amboseli National Park
Following an early morning breakfast, continue to Lake Naivasha for a boat ride. Proceed to leave the Rift Valley behind and make your way to Nairobi for an early lunch (or picnic lunch dependent on road conditions). From there you will continue south towards Amboseli, arriving at your lodge by late afternoon.
Overnight in Amboseli National Park Area
day 6 - Amboseli National Park
Today you will depart for a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch stop. You will return to the lodge in the late afternoon, where you may unwind in your room or spend time by the pool before dinner.
Overnight in Amboseli National Park Area
day 7 - Amboseli - Nairobi (departure) -
Following an early breakfast, catch your last views of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro as you depart Amboseli. From here turn north across the beautiful and seemingly never-ending Athi Plains. Arrive in Kenya's bustling capital Nairobi by mid-day. Once in the city, you will be dropped off at the drop-off point in the city centre or the airport for ongoing travel arrangements.
Optional: Shopping Trip to Utamaduni and the Kazuri Bead Factory
Utamaduni, meaning culture, tradition, folklore, is situated close to the Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe Centre, Daphne Sheldrick Animal Orphanage, the Nairobi National Park, and Kazuri Beads. It encompasses the best of African crafts and is dedicated to supporting craftsmen from all over Kenya. It supports various charities including the KSPCA and Street boys (who have their own shop in the center). There is also a small restaurant where one may stop for a quick bite. Later, visit the Kazuri bead factory, a producer of top-quality handmade and hand-painted ceramic jewelry and pottery. The workshop has been set up to empower women in need by employing them and teaching them a skill.
*Please note that this excursion is not available on Sundays and Public Holidays.
Optional: Lunch or Dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant
The Carnivore Restaurant is one of Africa’s greatest culinary experiences, famous for its succulent steaks, barbecue dishes, and warm African hospitality. A visit here will make an excellent complement to any holiday and is the perfect spot for welcome or farewell meals. Delicious barbequed and skewered vegetarian meals are also available.
