day 1Darwin to Kakadu Wildlife & Rock Art

Darwin - Kakadu National Park - Jabiru. Today, you will be picked up from the designated meeting point between 06:15 and 06:30 AM. We set off towards the Mary River Wetlands, where a cruise along Corroboree Billabong introduces us to the region’s rich birdlife and the chance to see saltwater crocodiles up close.
Our journey continues into Kakadu National Park with a stop at the Bowali Visitor Centre, an excellent place to learn about the area’s natural environment and cultural heritage. After a short break at camp, we travel north to Cahills Crossing, a well-known viewing point on the edge of Arnhem Land.
In the late afternoon, we explore Ubirr, a site of outstanding Aboriginal rock art. Here we discover ancient paintings that tell stories across generations before climbing to the top of the escarpment for sweeping views over the Nadab Floodplain at sunset. We round off the day by returning to our private camp, preparing dinner together, and enjoying the evening in good company.
Please note:We recommend arriving in Darwin the day before the tour begins. The itinerary and route may be adjusted in response to seasonal weather conditions or park closures due to traditional landowner ceremonies.
Meeting point: Travelodge Resort Darwin (rebranded THE LEEA DARWIN), 64 Cavenagh St, Darwin City NT, Northern Territory 0800, Australia, between 06:15 and 06:30.
Driving Distance: 420 KM
Hike Distance:1 KM loop, featuring flat pathways and a gradual climb up a rock face to the vantage point at the top.
Please note: Safari tents are only available for twin share (two travellers on the same booking) and are permanent tents; solo travellers will stay in a bush swag, a self-contained canvas bed roll with mattress designed for sleeping outdoors on the ground under the stars.
Please note: This is a participation-style tour where travelers will assist with shared meal preparation and clean-up duties. Please refer to the trip notes for further information.
