About Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal, India
‘The embodiment of all things pure’. That’s what Rudyard Kipling had to say for the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture on the planet.
A Monument of Love
The Taj Mahal was built for Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial for his beloved wife. He was believed to be so aggrieved by her death that his hair became white overnight. According to legends, he also ordered for the laborers who created the Taj to have their thumbs cut so that such an architectural masterpiece could never be replicated elsewhere.
A Victim of its Own Beauty
Located in the city of Agra, the Taj is one of the most visited attractions in the world. Every year, more than twice the population of Agra visits the Taj and gets lost in its fascinating beauty. Under the right light, the Taj seems to float like a mirage when you look at it from its main gateway. It seems to be pink at dusk, silver by the moonlight and beautifully white at noon.
