Just a single look at a photograph of Lake Bled is often enough for people to immediately start planning a trip to beautiful Slovenia. The country’s picturesque landscape offers many trekking and walking opportunities, or repel yourself off the Bled hills on a canyoning tour. Ljubljana, the capital, is home to beautiful green spaces, a towering castle and the famous Dragon Bridge.

Slovenia Tour Reviews

Honest insights from past guests on our Slovenia tours

Michael | Traveled in September

Very helpful enthusiastic leader who offered lots of alternatives that included her leadership on parts of the holiday that had nothing officially organised. We were lucky with the weather and good company of fellow travellers Strongly recommend Slovenia for its variety of beautiful scenery and amazing places of interest and friendly people EXPLORE’s choice of hotels was also very good

Tour leader Filip was excellent. Good command of English although not his native language. Knowledgable and always available to assist, with very good recommendations for places to eat. Would have liked more time in Dubrovnik and Kotor than allowed for in the itinerary. Overall a very good trip

Pauline | Traveled in September

This was a great trip. Slovenia is a lovely country. The places we went to and the walks that we had were excellent. Our leader went the extra mile to ensure that we all enjoyed the holiday.

An excellent tour leader that made problems go away for those on the tour. An itinerary that meant we could be confident that we saw highlights of this part of Slovenia without any effort having to be made by ourselves meaning it was a proper holiday with like minded people in a small group (8 people)

Richard | Traveled in August

This trip was a great introduction to Slovenia with so many highlights, from the wonderful historic buildings of Ljubljana to the tranquil lakes and the beautiful coastal towns. Good range of included and optional activities. Particular highlights were the boat trip on the pletna (gondola) out to Bled island, the mountain and lakeside walks at Lake Bohinj, and the day trip to the delightful coastal town of Piran, which was particularly impressive arriving by boat from Izola (worth getting up early to catch the 9am boat). Would recommend spending an extra day or two in Ljubljana as there is plenty to see there. The transport was a good mix of local buses and trains and private buses, and all ran smoothly. In most cases the bus arrival/departure points were a few minutes' walk from the hotels, so don't overload yourself with luggage.

Clifford | Traveled in August

Full on 2 weeks. A lot of highlights. Guided tours were excellent. Not enough time in some cities to properly explore what wasn't covered on the tour. Particularly hard to explore where it was not possible to get a map. Scenery was wonderful; trains and buses were all very comfortable. Everywhere felt safe and water was safe to drink in all places.

Slovenia Tours — Highlights and Travel Tips

Rich in water, and in forested land, Slovenia offers a picturesque landscape that looks like it could have come right out of a story book, complete with castles, cottages, and cloud crowned mountain peaks. Slovenia is a young country, which at one time has been a part of the Roman and Holy Roman Empires.

Tour Highlights

  • Explore one of the many different castles in this beautiful country, some of which have been converted to hotels that you can actually spend the night in.
  • Visit one of the many museums, of which there are over 200, starting with the National Museum of Slovenia, or perhaps the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana.
  • Visit the Savica Falls at Lake Bohinj, or take in the spectacle of one of the other 300 waterfalls that adorn this beautiful country.
  • Go hiking on The Sub-Alpine Trail for a first-and view of the beauty of this mountainous wooded realm. If you plan to hike the whole thing you will need to save up your vacation time, it is 470 km long!
  • Take a moment for meditative prayer at a 900-year-old monastery at Sticna.
  • Strap on your skis for some Alpine skiing, the slopes here are some of the best values you can find.
  • No trip is complete without a visit to Bled lake and the beautiful Castle of the same name.

Travel Tips

  • If you plan to do any driving don’t touch that phone. It is illegal to use your cell phone while driving; additionally, no right turn on red lights!
  • Dress warmly, the climate is cool.
  • Keep your receipts, they can be requested by inspectors when you’re leaving a store, and if you don’t have it you can be fined.
  • Pirated goods may seem like a good deal, but if you have to leave them at customs when you leave the country you will be sadly disappointed. Be sure to avoid counterfeited goods.
  • Don’t leave valuables in plain sight when you leave your car. Automobile break-ins are fairly common.
