A fantastic tour of all the best sites in Costa Rica from coast, to volcanoes, to cloud forests. This was an amazing tour, with an outstanding leader in Ingrid and excellent local guides, who worked together to create a very well organised holiday. We had realised, in order to get a snapshot of specific locations in this vast country, many internal flights would be essential and they worked very well. The tranquillity of the Amazon area with boat trips and forest walks revealed the hoped-for range of birds, including the curious looking Hoatzin. The Pantanal offered us beautiful birds such as the Hyacinth Macaw plus sightings of creatures, including the tapir and the prowling jaguar. The greatest surprise at Iguazu Falls was the discovery of a host of different species of butterflies. Overall, Explore had arranged a magnificent trip to show us highlights of these distinct regions of Brazil in a convenient timeframe.

Carlos was incredible right from the very first day of the trip. None of us knew him yet, and I didn’t know
what to expect, but he immediately stood out to me as someone who was extremely professional,
organized, and thorough. Every evening, he gave me and the rest of the group all the details we
needed — the route, the roads, the timing, the breakfasts and dinners, the weather, the excursions, the
challenges, the highlights.
He told us what to wear, when to use sunscreen, what to expect from the climbs, when the rain might
come, when to prepare for heat — every little detail was covered. Because of that, I felt comfortable,
confident, and fully aware of what was coming the next day. There were no surprises, and that was
because of Carlos.
And once he finished going through all the serious information, he would sometimes throw in a little
joke. Just a quick comment or a funny line to lighten the mood. I didn’t expect that from him at the
beginning, but those moments always made me smile, and they helped me relax. It showed me that
underneath the professional guide was a warm, funny, genuinely special person.
As the days went on, I got to see how much Carlos truly loves to ride. He lives for cycling. He rides long
distances, he races all the time, and he never seems to get tired. His passion for biking isn’t something
he hides — you can feel it in everything he does. And that passion made the trip even better for me. It
made me trust him, and it made me enjoy the rides more.
I’ve been on a few guided trips before, and I can say honestly:

The trip really packed in some iconic elements of Costa Rica, and lived up to its name in terms of seeing the highlights. It was great to experience the contrast of the Caribbean lowlands, rain forest and the pacific coast. And seeing the abundance of wildlife was incredible, as well as the delicious local dishes and wonderful people we me along the way.
The guide was great, really personable and had good knowledge and a keen sense to show us as much as possible, often stopping en route when he had spied interesting animals from the van.
The Manuel Antonio and the La Fortuna accommodation was great. The Authentico hotel was fine for passing through but we had paid for an additional night in San Jose, and for this purpose the hotel wasn’t in the best of locations as it was on the edge of the city with not much around in terms of restaurants so we felt a bit stuck in the hotel at the end.

Overall a great experience in the jungle. The accommodation was very clean with no insects in the room - my biggest worry in advance. The excursions are great and depending on the weather adventurous. But that is whag I was looking for when booking this trip!
