Solo Trips: Highlights Of Costa Rica + Beach Extension

Highlights of Costa Rica + Beach Extension

3.9
The trip really packed in some iconic elements of Costa Rica, and lived up to its name in terms of seeing the highlights. It was great to experience the contrast of the Caribbean lowlands, rain forest and the pacific coast. And seeing the abundance of wildlife was incredible, as well as the delicious local dishes and wonderful people we me along the way. The guide was great, really personable and had good knowledge and a keen sense to show us as much as possible, often stopping en route when he had spied interesting animals from the van. The Manuel Antonio and the La Fortuna accommodation was great. The Authentico hotel was fine for passing through but we had paid for an additional night in San Jose, and for this purpose the hotel wasn’t in the best of locations as it was on the edge of the city with not much around in terms of restaurants so we felt a bit stuck in the hotel at the end.

Solo Trips: Madagascar Wilderness Trek

Madagascar Wilderness Trek

Armond was an amazing leader, with local knowledge a good sense of how to engage us all in what was happening, and life in general in Madagascar. We learned so much. The local tour guides at each national park were super helpful and gave us that individual attention to be able to find the amazing animals. Michele our bus driver was incredible - how we didn't feel bounced around on those super rough roads was testament to his skill. Being an active tour was really good - not so long in the bus each day and a chance to get a walk in really made a difference. The challenge of the 4-day hike up a mountain was memorable and felt like a real achievement.

Solo Trips: The Best Of Georgia And Armenia

The Best of Georgia and Armenia

4.7
This was another thoroughly enjoyable Explore trip to a fascinating part of the world in terms of its rich history and present-day geopolitical relevance. The group we were travelling with bonded very quickly and were great company throughout the trip. Both tour leaders, Armene (Armenia) and Alex (Georgia) were excellent, communicated their knowledge and love of their respective countries with infectious enthusiasm and were genuinely lovely people. Both drivers also did a great job on sometimes less than perfect roads. There were multiple highlights but worth special mention would be both capital cities, Yerevan and Tblisi, the basalt rock formations along the Garni River Gorge, the spine-tingling medieval choral music at Geghard Monastery, a performance of La Traviata at Yerevan Opera House that wildly exceeded expectations, the amazing 12th-C cave settlement remains at Vardzia, hiking in the spectacular Kazbegi Mountains, plus all the amazing regional food and drink we sampled throughout the trip. Georgia's reputation as a bit of a foodie heaven is entirely justified. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip!

Solo Trips: Bavaria: King Ludwig's Way

Bavaria: King Ludwig's Way

Follow in royal footsteps with "Bavaria: King Ludwig's Way," an eight-day self-guided walking tour beginning in Starnberg and ending at the fairy-tale Neuschwanstein Castle. Designed for experienced travelers and seniors seeking both history and scenic beauty, this moderate-level journey traces the preferred haunts of Bavaria’s enigmatic King Ludwig II. Stroll past scenic lakes, rolling hills, and charming villages dotted with onion-domed churches. Admire masterpieces of baroque architecture, visit historic monasteries, and reach the summit of Hohenpeissenberg for panoramic Alpine views. The route is gentle, mostly farm tracks and country lanes, with numerous opportunities to pause for refreshments and local treats. The USP? A unique blend of royal intrigue, architectural splendor, and accessible walking, culminating at the world-famous Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. Accommodation, transport, meals, and detailed route guidance are provided, making this tour package the ideal way to experience Bavaria’s storybook landscapes and history.

Solo Trips: Walking The Corfu Trail (north)

Walking the Corfu Trail (North)

4.8
This trip was suggested to me by a friend, but as an 83 year-old who ‘peaked’ more than 10 years ago I had some reservations about going on it. However, my fears were put to rest when I saw that the same hotel was used before and after the most challenging stage – the 14-mile final stretch of the northern trail, including the crossing of Mount Pantokrater. But in the event, although the terrain is hilly with some steep climbs I didn’t find any of the walking particularly difficult. It helped that a lot of the journey was on shady woodland tracks. Mt Pantokrator was quite an easy climb, the only challenge being the length of the day and the distance. Not having visited Corfu before I found it a fascinating place, and have many vivid memories of the trip. We were fortunate to have, in Spiros, a leader who was very knowledgeable about local history, politics and wildlife. He worked very hard to make the holiday enjoyable for us, including leading us on a beautiful coastal walk to Kassiopi on the free day. I only wish I had discovered the island earlier so that I could walk the southern section as well.

Good trip, wonderful scenary. Really good infrastructure for walking in the trails. It should have been a walk at the Fiordland National Park (close to Wilford Sound) We just did a really small portion towards Marian Lake. It would have been different from the other trails that we did
