Walk the quieter trails between historical Coimbra and Porto on stage two of the Camino Portugués. The second stage of our self guided walking route along the Portuguese Camino between Lisbon and Santiago takes you from the historic and lively university city of Coimbra through vineyards, woodlands and villages to Porto, set on the banks of the Douro River and famous for its port wine production. Throughout the walk there are ample reminders of past pilgrims and the route offers many insights into the religious significance of the Camino. The Portuguese Road, or Caminho Portugués, is considered by many as the most spiritually connected pilgrimage route. Following the path St James' body took to its resting place at the site of Santiago de Compostela in Spain, the quieter Portuguese path offers a wealth of history and delightful landscapes to discover. Visually stunning in parts, there are many other advantages in walking the Portugués route.
Uncover the flavours of Galicia and Portugal on this eight-day adventure full of culinary delights, local wines and European hotspots. Take a tour of the central markets of Santiago de Compostela and enjoy a francesinha dinner in Porto. Discover how centuries of invasion and trade have given Portuguese cuisine a mixture of Mediterranean, African and Middle Eastern influences. Sip port and local wines among the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley and roll up your sleeves for dinner at an Alentejo farm stay. Explore coastal Lisbon, rubbing shoulders with locals at a canned fish hotspot and tuck into a glass (or two) of ginjinha (wild cherry liqueur) and the famed Portuguese tarts.

I really enjoyed our tour guide, Isaso. She was very friendly, helpful, informative of what our itinerary will be for each day, let us know when are our W.C. breaks were, how much time we have at each stop, present information of each place were were visiting, and very caring. Also, I like our driver, Domingo. Excellent driver so many curves and turns. I would have like to spend more time in the small towns such as Porto but due to the tight schedule, we did not have the time. I wish the bus had disability seats better accommodationsfor one elderly lady with cane/wheelchair and her daughter. Not fair that they had to walk further from the bus drop off area. Love all the hotels and hotel rooms. They were all very nice and clean. The breakfast in the hotels were delicious and had nice variety, too. I especially love the flamenco show and dinner in Madrid. The show was top notch and the dinner was one of the best I had. A very fun, long trip with sightseeing and long walks.

Overall, the trip was excellent, the local guide provided interesting local anecdotes. However we are a bit unsure why the hotel in general did not have tea/coffee making facility, which is normal in Australia.
UTracks provided the perfect way for my husband and I to walk a lovely part of the Portuguese Camino from Porto to Tui just for a week. The Camino isn’t a luxury vacation, it has a more humble history, and in the past we walked independently, staying in albergues in Spain, with no set daily itinerary on our way to Santiago de Compostela. This time we wanted to walk just a portion of the Portuguese road, with UTracks to do the groundwork and make our reservations for us. The inns and homes chosen to stay in all had charm and convenience and were, without exception, clean and run by friendly people. The route through Northern Portugal is beautiful, and the chosen itinerary alternated between challenging and easy days in order to let us enjoy the charming towns along the way. Well done, and thanks for the good memories, UTracks!

They did everything they promised, but it is what they did above & beyond that stands them apart. We were caught in the fires in Portugal & they arranged transport to get us out of danger, changed hotel bookings to accommodate the new circumstances & made us feel very safe. We were more than impressed with the level of communication & service. I won't be looking anywhere else when I book my next trip.
