We enjoyed our recent highlights tour of Mexico. There was lots to see and explore. We thought the ancient sites were magnificent. However, we recommend that people arrive in Mexico city a couple of days beforehand to acclimatise and really explore this magnificent city and its museums. In Particular the Anthropology museum. We really enjoyed the mountainous regions, and the indigenous areas were just so interesting. The towns and cities of San Christobal De las casas, Campeche and Merida were splendid and worth staying for longer and really getting to know.
Playa del Carmen at the end of the trip was a huge disappointment. It's not worth the effort and is a little tacky.
My wife and I are over 75 years old, but fit. We hiked and climbed Mayan pyramids, swam and trekked through an underground cave, snorkeled and dove reefs and shopped and dined in local markets. We took some extra trips, but passed on those, such as scaling an active volcano, that were not our cup of tea. By car, van, bus, boat, bike and foot, the adventure was always interesting. The tour guide handled all arrangements and ironed out the occasional glitch. However, he would arrange for local guides who had regional knowledge and views. We met many typical residents of three countries and interacted with them on a close and personal level.
This sizzling circuit of Central America takes you to some stunning hotspots in Mexico, Belize & Guatemala. There'll be plenty of surfing, snorkelling and sipping something sweet under the shade of a palm tree - but this trip isn't just about the beaches. You'll get stuck into Central America's rich culture as you taste tequila at a distillery, explore the ruins of ancient civilisations and eat food that will guac your world.
