We start this family tour in Cairo with a visit to the awe-inspiring Pyramids and Sphinx, followed by a trip to the vast Egyptian Museum - famous for its Tutankhamun exhibition and creepy mummy room. Next, we climb aboard the overnight sleeper train and make our way south to the picturesque town of Aswan on the banks of the River Nile. Here we visit the temple of Philae, join in on an English/Arabic language session at a local school (term times only), and enjoy a traditionally prepared Nubian meal with a locla family. There is also an early morning option to visit the amazing Sun Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel. Leaving Aswan behind we float down the River Nile on board a traditional Egyptian felucca sailboat taking in the rural scenery along the way. The trip to Egypt was absolutely amazing. Our tour leader ( Said or Sayed )was exceptional - bringing the mysteries of Ancient Egypt to life with his knowledge, expertise, storytelling with such charm humility and sense of humour. We learnt so much and were hanging off his every word. The itinerary was perfectly balanced. Full of exciting days normally beginning early but having a couple of hours of free time in the afternoon to relax if that’s what you wanted. The hotels were great and the train ride an experience. It’s not the Orient Express but you are warned about that and we just took it as it was and enjoyed the whole journey to Aswan on the overnight sleeper. . The middle day on the boat travelling to Luxor a welcome break from the hustle and bustle. But it was still exciting watching the Nile go by. There were so many highlights from the Great Pyramids, Saqquara, Abu Simbel, Karnak and hot air balloon ride. We did all the optional extras and they are well worth it. Don’t be put off by the long drive to Abu Simbel - you don’t want to miss that. We spent hours at the Old Cataract Hotel on our free morning in Aswan - full of atmosphere and exquisite colonial charm. You have to pay to go in but it’s worth it and you can redeem that money against tea, cake, beer, and the view is absolutely beautiful. We lived and loved every second. We had a lovely group of 7 and the tour leader Sayed (Said) was the perfect accompaniment making the trip probably the best trip we have ever taken. He gets 10 out of 10! We can’t fault Explore! either - great communication and very well organised. We will definitely use them again.

It is truly a wonderful experience, but at the same time a truly "educational one"! Our tour director, was exceptional not wasting a moment of any day, pointing out the very significant points of interests, at the same time, taking every part of this significant history in a chronological order.
The accomodations and service, both on the boat and in the hotel were five start plus, since we live in the Palm Beaches and use to up-scale adventure, made the "Breakers", look like an outhouse.....need I say more!
The value vs the price were evenly matched.
As for shopping, once again, significant shops were selected to include, spice, perfumes, and of course jewelry. At the same time educationing you on their wares and how they are used.
Like INSIGHT always does, is taking you inside the home of a residemt and demonstrates their current life style and habits, only in this example, demonstrated how bread was made not only for their family, but the entire neighborhood.
