A comprehensive ride along the full length of the Portuguese Camino from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The Portuguese Road, or Caminho Portugués, is considered by many as the most spiritually connected pilgrimage route. Following the path St James' body took to its resting place at the site of Santiago de Compostela in Spain, the quieter Portuguese path offers a wealth of history and delightful landscapes to discover. While the Caminho Portugués is traditionally walked by pilgrims, it is now possible to enjoy the route by bike. Starting in the historic capital city of Lisbon you will cycle through countryside towns to the university town of Coimbra. Continue on to the lively city of Porto, set on the banks of the Douro River and famous for its port wine production, the cycle through small hamlets, past eucalyptus and pine woods, over ancient bridges and through larger market towns dating back to Roman times. What a fabulous tour! What can go wrong with Walking & Wine Tasting?? - Absolutely nothing....a fantastic tour and one that I/we were dubious about due to our lack of stamina for walking, however this was paced fabulously and the walking was wonderful with some stunning scenery. Accommodation was excellent (apart from one very basic hotel). The places visited were all different in there own way, but it was great to get out of Madrid and into Countryside.
The Group were great - A mix of Brits. Aussies. Americans and a Kiwi and all above the age of 50, but please don't let this put you off booking this tour!!
The Winery's & Bodegas visited were an excellent mix. The food, was truly amazing. Magdalena our Tour guide was fabulous and considering this was her first tour with Explore, she did a remarkable job.

This tour was well run and for me a completely different cultural experience. I could relax and just go with the flow knowing everything was taken care of by the amazing tour leaders who were so very knowledgeable and caring. Their job is so difficult and I appreciated them both so much. My life has been forever changed got the better by visiting these countries thank you to everyone at Expat.
This tour was exactly what we hoped it would be. Everything, the experiences, accommodations, included meals and experiences, were all wonderful, especially for our price range. We traveled across six countries and kept an ideal pace, accomplishing so much more than we could have done on our own. We especially loved seeing Trümmelbach Falls, and so many mountain waterfalls, some even viewable from our Swiss hotel room.
