At 5 pm, you will be picked up at your hotel by a taxi or cyclo. Your first stop is the renowned Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, where you will watch a traditional water puppet performance complete with operatic music. Water puppetry has been a favorite pastime of farmers in northern Vietnam for thousand of years. It is said that this art form first began at a time when rice paddies were flooded and villagers would make entertainment by standing in the waist-deep water with the puppets performing over the water. After enjoying the traditional puppet show, you will continue your walking tour along the Hanoi Old Quarter. This place is also known as "36 Streets" where hawkers sell a variety of produce (from live seafood to exotic fruits and spices). Here, you will have dinner featuring a good selection of regional Hanoi dishes served in “street” style (local style). Would I recommend this particular adventure to a friend, in a word no. However I would caveat this with I had a great time and I would definitely recommend G adventures as a tour group and these three countries are definitely worth visiting. It's only a couple of small points that need 'ironing out' which is understandable considering the relatively new itinerary that has been created. Our CEO minty ensured a smooth tour and I suspect that another tour guide would have handled the issues not as effectively. Thank you, G Adventures, for a wonderful once in a lifetime experience.
