Uganda is one of Africa’s most underrated safari destinations. We’re here to change that – by bike! This 10-day tour combines some of Uganda’s most magical wildlife encounters – including the unforgettable experience of gorilla trekking – with moderate-level cycling through highlands, savannahs, and rainforests. By day, we go off the beaten path for a deep dive into East African wilderness and local lifeways, and by night, we unwind in some of Uganda's cosiest lodges.
We meet in Entebbe, the international gateway to Uganda, and drive north to Fort Portal, where we begin cycling on red dirt trails through a landscape of tea plantations and stunning crater lakes. We then enter Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s prime safari destination, for a game drive and wetland boat cruise, with the chance to spot herds of elephants, tree-climbing lions, and wallowing hippos. Next, we cycle directly through the park’s savannah before transitioning into the green, rolling hills of southwestern Uganda. At Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, we take a break from cycling to trek into the thick, misty rainforest in search of mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. We then cycle out of the reserve and into a world of terraced agricultural fields, making our way to the serene, island-dotted Lake Bunyonyi. From here, we transfer north for a final safari by bike in Lake Mburo National Park – where zebras, giraffes, buffalo, and impalas roam the plains – before concluding the tour back in Entebbe.
