Highlights of Costa Rica was an excellent trip, it packed in many sites and activities. I was a little apprehensive about the float trip but it was slow and gentle and allowed us to get a unique view from the river. The guide was excellent and pointed out lots of aniand birds. The rain and cloud forests didn't disappoint and I thoroughly enjoyed the fast paced trip.

This trip delivers in what is promises, wildlife! From the Green Turtles, Monkeys, and Toucans in Tortuguero to the Humpback Whales in Manuel Antonio we saw plenty of wildlife, all expertly pointed out by our Tour leader Leo. Additional highlights included the Cocao Tour in San Gerado de Dota and the White Water Rafting, both included in the Tour. As others have mentioned, the tour could do with a slight change in itinerary, getting us out of San Jose and into the cloud forest sooner and the hotel in La Fortuna was a slight dissapointment given how good all the other hotels were, however this did not put a damper on the overall tour. I can recommend going in the 'off' season too, the weather was no where near as bad as expected and there were fewer tourists to have to contend with!

The trip really packed in some iconic elements of Costa Rica, and lived up to its name in terms of seeing the highlights. It was great to experience the contrast of the Caribbean lowlands, rain forest and the pacific coast. And seeing the abundance of wildlife was incredible, as well as the delicious local dishes and wonderful people we me along the way. The guide was great, really personable and had good knowledge and a keen sense to show us as much as possible, often stopping en route when he had spied interesting animals from the van. The Manuel Antonio and the La Fortuna accommodation was great. The Authentico hotel was fine for passing through but we had paid for an additional night in San Jose, and for this purpose the hotel wasn’t in the best of locations as it was on the edge of the city with not much around in terms of restaurants so we felt a bit stuck in the hotel at the end.

Tortuguero was full of great nature, although the heat and lack of fans and air conditioning can be brutal at times. Puerto Viejo/Cocles was our favorite and it was great to see the Caribbean side of Costa Rica; all of the experiences there were fantastic as well. This is an absolutely incredible tour -- our guide Jason was both very informative and very helpful. He explained the history of the Arenal volcano to us, we took a short hike a small part of the way up the mountain, and then went back down to look at wildlife in the rainforest. We saw spider monkeys, which Jason said are a pretty rare sight, and then a red curacao just walked out onto the trail in front of us! It was an incredible feeling to just be seeing all these animals spontaneously on a nature hike. Speaking of hikes, it is important to be aware that this tour is somewhat physically demanding. There are no extreme parts, just some strenuous walking over very uneven ground, but I think the tour description could do a better job of emphasizing the challenge. At the same time, the tour is extremely convenient in terms of picking you up and dropping you off at your desired location, whether a hotel, hot springs, or somewhere else. Overall, I strongly recommend the Arenal Volcano trip to anyone who is into volcanoes and wildlife and plans to visit the Arenal area.
