Explore Kailash, the most sacred mountain in the Himalaya, during the Saga Dawa festival, and experience the traditional culture of sacred Tibet.. Mount Kailash has drawn pilgrims for centuries, believed to be the mythical Mount Meru, the spiritual centre of the universe. Sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, Jains and Bonpo alike, it’s a mountain revered more for its meaning than its summit. Set on the remote western reaches of the Tibetan Plateau, it’s one of the world’s most profound pilgrimage destinations, and also one of the hardest to reach.
This unique journey blends light trekking with immersive cultural touring. Starting in Chengdu, we travel overland from Lhasa through Gyantse and Shigatse, crossing stark plains and high mountain passes as we head deep into the spiritual heart of Tibet. Along the way we visit vibrant towns, ancient monasteries and sacred sites rarely seen by outsiders.
Timed to coincide with the Saga Dawa Festival - Tibet’s most important annual celebration, our journey reaches Mount Kailash at its most atmospheric. Pilgrims gather from across the region to honour the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha, creating a rare spectacle of prayer, ritual and celebration.
We then join the sacred kora - a three-day walk around the base of Mount Kailash - alongside Tibetan pilgrims. Though not technically demanding, the high altitude and spiritual weight of the journey make it one of the world’s most unforgettable circuits. Following the kora, we conclude the journey in Kathmandu, completing a high-altitude arc through the sacred lands of Tibet and Nepal.
My friend and I had a fantastic time on our trip. We were met by someone who helped us get the necessary paperwork, traveled to Wadi rum (we slept), stopped at a nice shop where we purchased beautiful scarves, and departed with our Wadi Rum local guide! Our guide was awesome, know all of the best spots to visit and photo spots as well! He was kind and attentive as I got sick at the beginning of our journey. We enjoyed staying at Sun Camp - the staff was so kind to us and generous in their efforts. We were fasting and they prepared food for us that night so we wouldn't be hungry. Our driver drove us to Petra (we slept), checked in to the hotel, and thoroughly enjoyed our guide who was also a local! We definitely benefited from his knowledge and connections! We enjoyed dinner in a cave and the following day our driver made arrangements for us to add an additional stop (for a cost). We were blessed to visit Jesus' baptism site before enjoying the amazing Dead Sea!
We had an absolutely amazing time in Bhutan. The people, the food, the sights and the natural beauty exceeded our expectations. Our guide, driver and trek crew were outstanding. Bhutan is a special place and we plan to visit again.
Explore the World Heritage Site of Borobudur Temple & trek through the striking landscapes of East Java where rugged volcanoes soar above the surrounding jungle. Java is an island of forested volcanoes rising between the Indian Ocean and the Java Sea. This adventure reveals both its beauty and depth, from the serene grandeur of Borobudur Temple, the world’s largest Buddhist monument, to the misty peaks of Mount Arjuna and Mount Bromo.
Begin in Yogyakarta, Java’s cultural capital, where royal palaces and artist workshops preserve centuries of Javanese tradition. Here, explore Borobudur, a UNESCO World Heritage site built in the 9th century. Carved from volcanic stone, its nine terraces are designed to represent the path to enlightenment.
Travel east by scenic train to Malang, gateway to Java’s highlands, where fertile volcanic soil support plantations of tea, coffee, and clove. From here, spend three days trekking through mountain forests of pine, acacia and casuarina, and farmland where villagers cultivate vegetables, potatoes and corn on the fertile slopes. Climb the twin volcanoes of Mount Arjuna (3,339m/10,955 ft) and Mount Welirang (3,185m/10,449 ft) on consecutive days, with nights spent camping beneath the stars.
Continue to Lawang, with it's tea filled hillsides, before your final hike up Mount Penanjaken (2,770m/9,088 ft), to take in the glorious vistas of Mount Bromo and the surrounding volcanoes at sunrise. Concluding in Denpasar, you can easily extend your time to relax in tropical Bali.
This was an amazing cultural and nature journey that helped us immerse ourselves in the Bhutan's way of life.
Amazing, caring knowledgeable guide and driver. Awesome experiences.
