This is a very good trip but fell down on two points: 1) Just half a day in Colombo is woefully inadequate. 2) The current Explore practice on many recent trips of large lunches (In the case of Sri Lanka buffet group lunches in tourist restaurants) followed by large evening meals, also invariably as a group, is crazy. Most group members complained about this. A light lunch sampling local "street type" food, soup or light sandwiches followed by a decent evening meal would be infinitely more sensible. We all agreed that given we were not walking very far on most days no one needs two huge meals a day!

Without the dust in Rajastan India is indeed a great destination not only for Westerners but anyone interested in East Indian cultures and traditions. Food was good but a little too salty for my tastebuds. In southern India food not as salty but also very good. I plan at some later time to revisit India but be a little more prepared to deal with the dust and the northern weather in January.

This trip was the perfect balance. I’d always been curious about Thailand but I wasn’t looking for a beach holiday. Others were more contemplative like taking in the quiet beauty of ancient temples or riding the train past green hills with history hanging in the air. Traveling in a little group made a real difference. We had enough time and space to connect with each other but also room for quiet reflection. The accommodations were comfortable, the meals were memorable (I’m still thinking about that green curry), and the logistics were smooth from start to finish. This isn’t a flashy tour. It’s not about luxury or checking off Instagram shots. It’s about slowing down, absorbing your surroundings, and returning home with stories that linger. If that sounds like your kind of travel, I can’t recommend it enough.
