A true adventure for those that want a unique biking experience. This guided cycling adventure takes you deep into the heart of Uzbekistan – from the legendary Silk Road cities of Samarkand and Bukhara, to the remote mountain villages and desert plains.
Over 10 days of supported cycling, you’ll cover up to 450km, pedalling on a mix of sealed roads, gravel tracks and rural dirt paths. The terrain is varied – with exhilarating descents, some short climbs, and quiet backroads that weave through mountain ridges, wide valleys and remote stone villages. You’ll be supported throughout by a backup vehicle and expert local crew, with a quality hybrid or mountain bike provided.
Cycle from the foothills of the Tian Shan and Turkestan ranges, spot Severtsov sheep, and swim in the turquoise waters of Lake Aydarkul, with nights spent in yurts, village homestays and small local hotels.
Out of the saddle, uncover centuries of cultural richness: from caravanserais and madrasahs to grand mosques and mausoleums. Explore the intricate tilework of Samarkand’s Registan, wander the old quarters of Bukhara, and step inside vibrant bazaars and citadels once ruled by kings and khans.
This is a true cultural journey on two wheels, led by local experts and built on decades of experience operating immersive adventure travel across Central Asia.

The "Discover Japan" tour invites you on a 15-day exploration, starting and ending in Tokyo. Seniors will appreciate the leisurely pace as the group visits Ikaho, Hiroshima, and eight other destinations. With all travel logistics—accommodation, meals, and transport—handled, this sightseeing package’s unique value is its broad coverage, offering an in-depth look at Japan’s rich tapestry of history and culture in a single, easy-paced journey.
The itinerary is good, but full-on. Explore and all the other similar companies seem to compete by how many places they can fit into a trip, which is good if you want a taster, but not-so-good if you want to spend a bit of time in your preferred locations. However, the only disappointing part was the houseboat; the backwaters are full of them....not very idyllic. Our guide and driver were amazing; they took care of everything so it was relaxing despite the schedule.

Trekking into the Gokyo Valley and it’s surrounding lakes is an exhilarating experience. It’s the ideal way to explore Gokyo located at the base of the Gokyo Ri. Gokyo is a beautiful valley with majestic high mountains and blue lakes close to the base camp of Mt. Cho Oyu (8216m).
The trek provides a great opportunity to witness some of the tallest snow-capped peaks of the world including Mt. Everest. The trekking trail of the Everest region itself is the most popular trekking trail in the world passing over remote villages, lush green forests, high mountain settlements, pristine lakes and icy mountain rivers.
The trek initially starts after taking a trans-Himalayan flight from Kathmandu to Lukla then trek to Phakding. The following days are spent hiking towards Namche Bazaar then to the Gokyo Valley and exploring around Gokyo’s blue lakes. Afterwards, re-trace the route back to Lukla and fly to Kathmandu.
Soaring mountains, endless forests, ancient monasteries, and a proud heritage – the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan beckons intrepid cyclists to traverse its breathtaking landscapes and explore its rich traditions. This epic 15-day journey is the final word in cycling tours through the 'Land of the Thunder Dragon' following the Lateral Road – Bhutan’s primary east-west route – for 785 km, from the capital Thimphu at the foot of the Himalayas to the border outpost of Samdrup Jongkhar on the edge of the Assam Plain. But it’s not just about the thrill of the ride – we also slow down to discover Bhutan’s most iconic dzongs (fortified monasteries) and immerse ourselves in a highland world of untamed woodlands, grazing herds of yaks, and rural bliss.
We begin in Paro with a visit to Bhutan’s iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, an unforgettable hike that also serves as a warm-up for our lungs and legs! The next day, based in Thimphu, we tackle the formidable Dochula Pass, rewarded with a long, winding descent into Punakha Valley, where we explore the country’s most photogenic dzong. From here we follow gushing rivers and rugged mountain passes to reach the Bumthang Valley, the spiritual heartland of Bhutan. A rest day allows us to discover the birthplace of Bhutanese Buddhism before we venture into the remote Tang and Ura valleys where glistening rice paddies blanket the rolling hills. The final stage of our adventure features simply stunning scenery as we rise and fall with the contours of the Himalayan foothills to reach Trashigang, the easternmost point on Bhutan’s Lateral Road. And finally, after a last set of gradual climbs, we relish in the grand finale: a descent from over 2,000 metres to near sea level as we roll to the Bhutanese border with the Indian state of Assam. On the last day we cross into India and drop you off in the bustling city of Guwahati, where you can catch your onward flight.
Join us on this extraordinary journey and discover the mystical land of Bhutan by bike!

The itinerary is very well thought out with lots to see and do. Everyday had a highlight and the Nepalese are so friendly and inviting. The views of the Himalayas in Nagarkot and Pokhara were stunning. The hotels were in excellent locations throughout. There are walks for those who want to and options for those who don't. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, regardless of physical ability. Our tour leader, Su, was excellent and worked tirelessly to ensure our safety, enjoyment and general happiness. He is the best leader I have had out of some 27 tours. This is Explore's strong point - they know how to pick and train tour leaders and Su was the best of the best.

Rising to a staggering height of 8462 m, Mount Makalu, the fifth highest mountain peak in the world, lies in the northeast part of Nepal between the border of Nepal and Tibet. This is a culturally and environmentally diverse region with unsurpassed natural beauty, towering Himalayan peaks and biological diversity. The trek to Makalu passes through the Makalu Barun National Park and ends at the base camp, one of the best vantage points for observing the beautiful Himalayas, with famous mountains such as Everest, Makalu and Lhotse seemingly in your backyard.
The Makalu Base Camp trek is a remote trekking route that starts from the lowlands of Tumlingtar and follows the Arun River. The region is especially notable for its ethnic variety. Many ethnic groups such as Brahman, Chhetri, Rai, Limbu, Gurung and Tamang live here.
The Arun valley offers some rare species of birds, some of which are only found in Nepal. After crossing the Arun River, you follow the Kasuwa Khola and scale the Shipton Pass (4,500 m). Trekking along the upper Barun River valley, you then reach the Makalu Base Camp (5000 m), from where you get some incredible views of the picturesque south face of Makalu, with Everest and Lhotse in the background.
After many days of hard trekking, the steadfast trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas, including Chamlang, Peak 6, Peak 7 and of Makalu itself, the world’s fifth highest mountain. The experience and serenity of camping in alpine meadows at the base of Mt. Makalu, while sitting back and enjoying the Himalayan panorama is absolutely spectacular. In fact, this trek is generally spectacular!

We cannot recommend this trip highly enough. The variety of experiences was enormous -from the craziness of Kathmandu, to the laid-back nature of Pokhara, to the jaw-dropping majesty and vastness of the mountains-we loved it all. Our guide, Jangbu Sherpa, was brilliant throughout the whole holiday. His calm and knowledgeable presence was appreciated by the whole group. He looked after us, motivated us and inspired us when the going was tough.
