The Machame route is regarded as the most scenic of the trails to trek Mount Kilimanjaro. You ascend gradually through the forest until you emerge onto the Moorland of Shira Plateau, known for offering some of the best views of the Kibo Peak and the Great Mawenzi.
Theoretically, you could also extend the trek to increase your summit chances, but if you can afford a longer trek then the Shira or Lemosho route are better options. They share the same scenic path for the last four days to the summit…

This was an excellent Safari. The Tour was as described for style and is not for the faint hearted. We observed all of the animals and birdlife you could wish for. This was a real adventure and both my Wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The itinery could do with an update although in the grand scheme of things would not have made much difference.

This safari in Kenya and Tanzania was absolutely amazing! The guides and drivers were so knowledgeable and skillful in finding the best opportunities to view animals in action in their habitat. The accommodations and choices of experiences were excellent! We were so excited to see a papa lion guarding 11 lion cubs, a leopard leaping out of a tree to chase a prey, and so many elephants and wildebeest in the great migration. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect as safari tours seem expensive, and I kept wondering if it would really be worth the cost. But it absolutely was. From the first day I knew I’d made the right choice. Every game drive felt like a new adventure. One morning we watched a group of baby elephants playing in the dust while their mothers stood nearby. Later, we spotted a hippo yawning near a watering hole. So close we could see its giant teeth! And the sunsets? Incredible.
Our guide was excellent. He was friendly & funny. The group dynamic was easy and fun. We had a mix of people: a couple celebrating their anniversary, a solo traveler from NY, and me with a close friend. It never felt awkward or too crowded.
You don’t need to be super fit for this tour. Everything is done at a relaxed pace and was very accessible, even for folks who aren’t used to rugged travel.
If Tanzania is on your list, my advice is that you don’t overthink it. Just go. It’s 100% worth it.
