The western islands itinerary in the Galapagos aboard the Reina Silvia with Omar Medina as our guide was one of the best trips I've taken, in more than 50 countries over the past 25 years. We saw incredible wildlife - at least 1 or 2 new species each day! - and spectacular landscapes, and we really had time to explore in different ways and take it all in. Omar and the crew of the Reina Silvia took such good care of us in every way and made our adventure safe, fun and memorable. Our group of 16 was fantastic - we've made some true friends, and are already making plans to see each other again. I can't recommend this trip highly enough... just wish there was an option for smaller meal portions (for those of us who are smaller people), since I felt bad wasting such delicious food. The trip was epic, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
This journey will take you through the ancient splendors of Quito and the exotic islands of the Galapagos with their endemic animals. Begin your journey in Quito, the breathtaking capital city surrounded by the Andes Mountains. From there you will catch your flight to Baltra Island and sail to Santa Cruz, where you will learn about the volcanic soils and search for the world- famous Giant Tortoises. Next, you will travel to incredible places as Genovesa Island and Darwin Bay, where you will have the chance to see the Red-footed Boobies, as well as experience on sand, rock and lava formations so common in this area. Your next destinations will be Plaza Island and Santa Fe Island, where you will be immediately distracted by the abundant sea lions. On different stops you will have the chance to spot different variety of birds, such as Blue Footed Boobies, Frigate Birds, Red- Billed Tropicbirds, Swallow-Tailed Gulls. You will also have the opportunity to snorkel in turquoise waters and wonder at Galapagos amazing aquatic life. End you exploration the by Bachas Beach and visit the lagoon with wading birds, marine iguanas and sometimes even flamingoes. Finally fly back to Quito to connect with your flight back home.
The trip is incredible. The scenery varies every day and you'll ride on all possible terrains: sand, rock, gravel, tarmac and every day offers a lot of fun. The landscape of the Moon Valley in Chile is surreal and the Tatio geyser excursion is a stunning experience.
