It was a wonderful trip thanks to an exceptional guide, Africa's own treasured wildlife and habitats, and the kind generosity of the natives who shared with us this spectacular part of the world. Yes, the pre-trip paperwork could have been less confusing . The logistics should maybe have been worked out earlier and more definitely. Mixture of hotels as per say with Explore, from full electricity to an African Hut lit by candle light. Please note accommodation is very basic compared to Western standards which Assan stressed to the group on the first day of the trip.
As mentioned in the itinerary there is a heavy emphasis on the bird life and the majority of trips are geared towards the birds. If birds are your thing then this is a trip for you.
The guide Assan is an excellent & enthusiastic birder with a comprehensive knowledge of the birds from The Gambia & Senegal.
Assan is a very open and honest guide & will relay his personal experiences of his own village life in The Gambia.
Driver Cering was excellent & ensured we were all safe & comfy on the long journeys on the bumpy African roads.
Bottled was provided on the bus along with regular local fruits.
Food wise, a lot of enthesis on fish cooked and served whole.
I am a vegetarian non fish eating and with help from Assan I never went hungry.

I especially enjoyed the Thorn Tree Camp accommodations, as there were zebra grazing and hyenas freely patrolling the grounds. The only drawback was the floor in the bathroom section of the tent, which was quite uneven. The view from our Sangaiwe [Tarangire] tent was amazing!

This was an excellent trip very efficiently run. Two nights in every location except the last worked well. The accommodation standard was excellent and all the food was very good, including that prepared by the leaders. The trip was a very good mixture of game driving, hiking, a history day and driving days (I enjoy seeing the countryside and I listen to audio books to help pass the time). The last two and a half hiking days in the Drakensberg were a real highlight. Only one day, the hike in Eswatini, failed to impress as it was on a big track most of the time. Overall, this gives a very good introduction to the east of South Africa with not too much time spent in the truck. Oh, and the truck was very spacious and comfortable, not a minibus as I expected.

Our Culture and Wildlife of Madagascar tour was terrific. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and night walks to see lemurs, chameleons and more. We also experienced many aspects of the local culture, and we especially enjoyed the coastal lakes area of the Pangalanes, a tropical paradise. Our guide was informative and keen, and our accomodation was very comfortable.

It was a wonderful trip and I have many fond memories of it. Everything went very smoothly and I know I'll definitely be going back to Africa!

What really made this trip special was how much variety it packed into 12 days. It never felt repetitive. One day we were out on a game drive in Kruger National Park, watching elephants cross the road right in front of our vehicle. Next, we were in a completely different setting, standing in front of Victoria Falls, feeling the spray on our faces. It was surreal to experience such different landscapes and wildlife in such a short span of time.
The weather also helped. It was nearly perfect throughout the tour. Mornings were cool and crisp, great for early safaris, and by afternoon it would warm up just enough without being uncomfortable. Every place felt timed just right. Our guide knew when to slow down and when to move on so we never missed anuything.
Cape Town, especially, stood out. Seeing the Table Mountain was unlike anything I’d seen before. We took the cable car up, which was an optional tour and the views of the city and coastline were incredible. There was also a nice balance of cultural activities. We also did Winelands tour which yet was another amaing experience.
I had some concerns before booking, but everything, from airport pickups to hotel check-ins was butter smooth. I felt safe and taken care of. You should surely give this one a try if you're traveling to South Africa for thr first time.
