Johannesburg 10-Day Tours and Trips

My Essence of South Africa journey with Trafalgar was unforgettable from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between adventure, culture, and relaxation, giving me a deeper appreciation for the country’s landscapes and the people who call it home. The safari experiences were truly the highlight—expert guides and trackers made every game drive feel like a once-in-a-lifetime moment. From watching wildlife at sunrise to witnessing scenes I’ve only ever seen in documentaries, each day brought something new and exciting. All hotels and lodges were perfect! Food selection at hotels were exceptional!

What really made this trip special was how much variety it packed into 12 days. It never felt repetitive. One day we were out on a game drive in Kruger National Park, watching elephants cross the road right in front of our vehicle. Next, we were in a completely different setting, standing in front of Victoria Falls, feeling the spray on our faces. It was surreal to experience such different landscapes and wildlife in such a short span of time. The weather also helped. It was nearly perfect throughout the tour. Mornings were cool and crisp, great for early safaris, and by afternoon it would warm up just enough without being uncomfortable. Every place felt timed just right. Our guide knew when to slow down and when to move on so we never missed anuything. Cape Town, especially, stood out. Seeing the Table Mountain was unlike anything I’d seen before. We took the cable car up, which was an optional tour and the views of the city and coastline were incredible. There was also a nice balance of cultural activities. We also did Winelands tour which yet was another amaing experience. I had some concerns before booking, but everything, from airport pickups to hotel check-ins was butter smooth. I felt safe and taken care of. You should surely give this one a try if you're traveling to South Africa for thr first time.

It was a magical, once in a lifetime trip. I had so much fun and it was everything I hope it would be and more. Our CEO, safaris, accommodation, travel and food were all excellent. This was my third G Adventures tour and by far the best!

The best trip with Explore ever!! Our guide Samantha was fabulous, gracious, hard working, funny, informative and a great driver. We saw and did so many things that I cannot list them all but they were all fantastic. We saw the Big Five plus dozens of other species plus fabulous venues and food. I would recommend this trip for anyone who wants to get to know South Africa and have a great time.

Covers lot of ground and this is the one disadvantage. One day we did not arrive at our destination until past 8pm. Plenty of opportunities to get to grips with wildlife but some trips underwhelming, such as Rorke's Drift and the Hippo cruise at St Lucia. Good to have three nights at St Lucia to get over the earlier long trip, but with a couple of changes this trip could be extended a day or so and give pause for breath.

The trip was wonderful: from the safaris (we saw so many wild animals), to the sip-and-cycle, to the luxurious hotels and safari lodge, to the domestic flight arrangements and, most of all, to our fantastic guide Julian.
