It was an excellent way to experience Japan for the first time. The tour was well organized and our guide (Keiko) was amazing! We really enjoyed getting insight about Japanese culture and understanding the history behind the places we visited. Travelling by bullet train between cities was super efficient and navigating the chaotic train stations was made so much easier by Keiko. The hotel accommodations were very good and bus transportation within the cities by the tour company was excellent. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in discovering Japan.

It was a reasonable balance of tour activities and free time. However, a couple of activity locations allowed too much free time, whereas one or 2 others didn’t allow enough.

The itinerary provided a wonderful overview of diverse Japanese cities. Participants need to be physically able to do a great deal of walking. Hiroshima and Kyoto were my favorite cities. I also enjoyed the opportunity to prepare two of the meals. Shopping opportunities were my least favorite activity as I’m not a shopper and don’t like large market place crowds. Our tour director was wonderful!

Enjoyed the itinerary of this trip as it brought us to so many different cities with each of their own unique customs and lifestyles. Would recommend this itinerary but they would need to be able to walk a lot.

This Trip was fantastic! The only thing that would of been nice was to spend more time at MT Fugi such a long way and short time there. Otherwise it was the best and AKO the tour guide was outstanding!!! 10 stars seriously the best ever!

Hiroshima - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

    Hiroshima Tour Highlights

    • Pay a visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on your Hiroshima tour and soak up the legacy of the 1945 nuclear attack. Over 1 million people visit a year to pay their respects.
    • Stroll further into the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and visit the historic remains of the atomic blast contained at the Atomic Bomb Dome, a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    • Marvel at Japanese architecture at its finest as you visit the 16th century Hiroshima Castle, partially destroyed and rebuilt during the war.
    • Catch a ferry over to Itsukushima island and explore the green forest, marvel at ancient temples, and soak up spectacular views of Mount Minsen.
    • Take a break in Shukkeien historic gardens as you relax in a green oasis in the heart of the city, home to a koi pond and flowering trees.

    Hiroshima Travel Tips

    • Make sure you purchase a Japan Rail Pass to get your money’s worth on a long-distance train ride. The pass must be purchased before you enter the country and offers unlimited use of the Japan train system for a one-off fee.
    • As a foreigner visiting Hiroshima, you won’t be met with any animosity but you should be respectful of Hiroshima at all times. Try and avoid taking photographs smiling in front of memorials and museums that document the tragedy of the atomic bomb.
    • If you’re taking a Japan tour on a budget then you might want to live off curry, ramen, and donburi as these three dishes tend to be inexpensive. You can find cheap meals at convenience stores too.
    • If you’re planning on visiting Itsukushima island, then be wary of the ferry crossing times. While the crossing takes only 10 minutes, the last ferry back to the mainland departs at 22:14 so don’t miss it!
    • Hop aboard the Hiroden, the city’s electric streetcar when in Hiroshima as it is an easy way of getting around the city. Take a ticket from the box near the door when you get in the Hiroden and when you hop off simply give your ticket to the attendant and they’ll tell you how much you owe.
