Had a great time doing the island hop tour, the group really made it that extra special. Majority of the hotels were in great locations.
The visit to the local farm was a huge highlight, the food was just delicious there.
Definitely pack water shoes as all the beaches are rocky, like actual rocks that can be quite sharp, not just pebbly.
And unfortunately all the walks are done in the middle of the day, so definitely bring a good sized water bottle

Explore have clearly taken on board all of the comments made on previous versions of this trip and have now put together a really excellent itinerary. Each day was busy as we covered a lot of ground but there was plenty of free time to wander round the bigger places and we always arrived at each place in plenty of time for a tour and the opportunity to visit things that were of particular interest to the different people on the trip.
Our tour guide, Renske, was really excellent. She made everything go very smoothly and did particularly good walking tours on arrival at each city so that we could get our bearings and she could point out the things to see and do. She also dealt patiently with the myriad of queries and the different interests of people in the group.
Our trip was occasionally challenging because of the unexpectedly extremely high temperatures that were experienced at the end of June but even that didn’t take anything away from a great trip with a lovely group of people.
For me, particular highlights were Zaragoza and Montserrat and also the beautiful Hopital de Sant Pau which was next to the hotel in Barcelona. We would probably never have seen that if we had not stayed in that area and it was also great to be within walking distance of the Sagrada Familia. I think that wherever you stay in Barcelona you will probably always need to use the metro to see some of the sights but it was easy to use (and much cooler than above ground!) and Explore even through in the metro tickets.

An absolutely fantastic trip that exceeded all our expectations! Highly recommended. In our top 3 Explore trips.
While the scenery was spectacular (is there another country that can offer so much in such a small area?), it was the people that made the trip. Our tour leader, Sajid, was superb, and he was very ably supported by the jeep drivers for whom nothing was too much (see the photo). Such lovely men. And the local people wherever we went were so friendly and welcoming. We never experienced any hassle or were worried about our safety.
The trip is strenuous so if you are not fit then you will not be able to enjoy it all. Get some hikes in before you go!!! The jeep travel was very interesting as it afforded great views, but it is not for everyone. The accommodation was very good except for 2 nights in one location where the quality of the bedrooms was very variable.
Any pre-trip concerns on security and food were addressed. We are vegetarian, which we told could be a problem, but Sajid made sure that we always had plenty of options at every meal. We had raised this with Explore before the trip, but we were left a bit up in the air by their response so we brought back up food with us just in case. It would be helpful to make the trip notes more specific.
We loved Hunza valley - the people, the scenery, the location and the town, which is good for shopping. There is not much opportunity to buy souvenirs etc on the trip, but Hunza is the place to do this (and not Naran, which is at the tacky end of the market). I suggest that the evening walk to the locals' house for dinner in the Hunza valley should be cancelled to allow more time to explore the shops. I recommend Karakoram Handicraft (near Zero Point). Credit cards are accepted at most places.
The biggest improvement to the trip should be more specific advice on cold weather gear. The trip notes gave the impression that we would be facing really cold temperatures and, being unable to get accurate weather forecasts for the places that we were going to, we followed the advice and packed thermal gear. In the end, we used a fleece a couple of times and a thin jacket once or twice. The rest of the clothing remained unused. I now understand the need for the advice for an October trip, but not in June, July and August.
There are a couple of very long driving days. It would be helpful to get advice at the start of each day on toilet stops, lunch, breaks etc (use the WhatsApp group?) rather than finding out along the way.
The suggested tip amounts in the trip notes seem too low. A group of us were embarrassed by how low they were so added more for both the drivers and the guide. The trip notes need changing,
I raise this on every trip - it is useful to get pre-trip advice on where clothes can be washed at a hotel. We were able to use the hotel facilities (quick, cheap and good quality) on 3 occasions. We should have taken fewer clothes!
Definitely bring hiking shoes or boots. And walking sticks to be safe (but not entirely necessary).

Toufic was an excellent leader. He managed to take care of a great many people with conflicting goals. He was compassionate, knowledgeable, eminently able throughout. If anyone had a problem, Toufic addressed it and solved it.

The captain and expedition team really pushed the limits to ensure that we visited as many interesting places as possible and saw a wide range of scenery and ecosystems. The crew were very friendly and helpful, and the expedition team was extremely knowledgeable and experienced in both the Arctic and Antarctic. The ship was very comfortable with a fantastic library and other good facilities, and our cabin was wonderful - peaceful, comfortable and beautifully furnished.

We joined the Greg Mortimer in Svalbard having spent the night in a hotel in Longyearbyen. The ship is modern, clean and bright. Our cabin was on the 6th deck with a balcony accessed by a sliding door with room to sit out so long as we put enough clothes on. It had ample storage space, a wonderful en-suite with a heated floor, sheer luxury! All types of plug were catered for so recharging batteries was easy. The first 3 days were spent round Svalbard looking at the wildlife and scenery. Leaving the ship on the zodiacs was very easy and well thought out. We ended up wearing 5 layers to stay warm. Sitting in the zodiac for a couple of hours could get very cold with out the right gear. The ship itself is well appointed with plenty of observation space, both indoor and outdoor. The lecture theatre is excellent and, if you don’t want to attend, you can watch the proceedings from your cabin on the TV.
The food was very good, Buffet style lunches and a good menu in the evenings.
Crossing the Greenland Sea on the 4th day was a little rough but the ship has stabilisers which worked well. There was a noticeable lack of people in the dining room on the first night though.
Reaching Greenland, the itinerary was adjusted based on the weather and conditions. Each day we generally had two zodiac trips with landings when we could. The supplied Wellington Boots were comfortable and warm although we did supplement them with a thermal sole insert and two pairs of socks.
The landscape is fantastic with towering cliffs and glaciers coming down to the sea. The scale is hard to describe as there is not much to compare it with but some mountains like the Devil’s Castle loom over the ship at some 1100m. Very impressive. Each day was at a different site with the ship moving overnight.
We did get to see a couple of Polar Bears, seals, walruses, musk ox and plenty of birds.
All in all, a wonderful trip full of fantastic scenery and wildlife on a comfortable ship designed for the job. The crew were excellent and always helpful as were the very knowledgeable Expedition staff.
If you want to see a mostly untouched wilderness with stunning views and wildlife, we can recommend this trip.

Accommodations were always very nice and the itinerary was amazing. Our Explore Leader, Manny, was the Best! She was so informative, set up special group meals where we could attend if we wanted to.
