All round a good trip, a good introduction to a country I didn't know much about. Using the train to get to Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang is a smoother and faster way to get to places than going by road, but you are not allowed to take anything which could be considered as a weapon (as in hand luggage on a plane), even in your luggage - it will screened and items confiscated. Fortunately the guide was able to get things taken from group members taken to Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang by road. I would recommend this trip if you are interested in visiting south east Asia.

The Spirit of Laox trip was excellent, great value for what was included. We especially liked the trip on the Mekong River, it was a lovely restful day inbetween alll the other full on days. We liked the amount of activities and trips provided by Explore and all were interesting and enjoyable . The tour leader, Silk, was great and he had a huge knowledge of the history of Laos and Cambodia which added to the interest The local guides, Tae and Pheng, in Laos were also very knowledgeable and helpful. I couldn’t recommend this trip more. We loved the cycling element mixed with learning about the culture of two fascinating countries. The cycling is very flat (although hot obviously) so not too demanding. I don’t do much cycling at home but I loved cycling in the group through local towns and villages. It’s an excellent way to see the countryside, the beautiful temples and the way ordinary people live. The hotels were really excellent too, many with swimming pools, although the itinerary was pretty full so we didn’t always have time for a swim! Our explore guide Binh was exceptional and really made the trip for us. We had lots of laughs along the way and he and other local crew looked after the group so well.

The tour was wonderful. Karique was an excellent tour guide. He was knowledgeable and interesting, and looked after our group well. The food was great, and varied, which made a huge difference. This was a great trip full of wonderful and varied experiences plus a number of highlights including: Bodh Gaya and important Buddhist sites, Varanasi, the Taj Mahal, Shimla and The Golden Temple at Amritsar. Travelling by train proved to be fascinating and a good way to meet people, even if it was not always totally comfortable. Pemba was an excellent tour guide, caring, well organised, knowledgeable and extremely likeable. I would certainly recommend the trip as a good way to explore this part of northern India.
