Itinerary

The Norwegian fjords are one of the natural wonders of the world: a cinematic landscape of snow-capped mountains, steep green hillsides and powerful waterfalls plunging into calm, clear fjordic waters. Purposefully avoiding the tourist hotspots, we stay at a guesthouse in the fjords, providing easy access to some of the most picturesque walking trails in Norway. There’s also time to take a ferry through the sheer cliffs of Nærøyfjord (Narrow Fjord) and ride the Flåm railway, one of the most scenic train journeys in the world.

day 1Adventure starts in Bergen

Begin your adventure in the picturesque coastal city of Bergen, deep in fjord land and wrapped by seven mighty mountains.
Around 4pm, say hallo to your tour leader and fellow travellers in the hotel lobby, where we gather as a group for the first time to get to know each other and learn more about the adventures ahead.
After, we get our bearings with an orientation tour of the city, before your tour leader ensures a big Norwegian welcome by arranging a three-course group dinner at the hotel.

Waterfalls, valleys and glaciers!

As an Exodus staff member, I recently had the pleasure of visiting this incredible country, Norway. I was blown away by how stunning the landscapes were, including numerous waterfalls and valleys created by ancient glaciers still visible today! Awesome Fjord Experience

Amazing discovery of the fjords via hiking, cruise, ferry rides and mini-bus travel. The accommodations at Nes Gard and Fjaerland Fjordstove Hotel added to the spectacular hiking. Views of the fjords and farm-to-table food was amazing at both Inns. Each day of hiking was a unique experience ; all of which offered amazing views.

Majestic landscapes - superb itinerary - outstanding guides

One of the best Exodus tours we have done. Norway is staggeringly beautiful, and we experienced it in a way that is simply not possible from the deck of a cruise ship. All the walks are linear, but the landscape is so varied that it never seemed repetitive. The accommodation was excellent, and Nes Gard is a real gem.

Walking the ffjords

Fantastic week walking in beautiful Norway. Think I have fallen a little in love with the country and the people. Views were breathtaking. The itinerary was moved around to accommodate weather and later finishing. This worked well and we got a bonus trip to a local farm with an excellent cafe. I chose not to go on the glacier walk. I certainly didn’t miss out as the alternative walk was absolutely stunning.

Walk through the natural wonders of western Norway's pristine fjords, fells and moorlands. This trip is the ideal introduction into the magic of Norwegian hiking. You will walk from several centres using easy transportation on trains and boats in between. From Oslo or Bergen you travel by rail to some of the wildest, most spectacular, classic “picture postcard” settings within the realms of Norwegian mountain and fjordland. Many people enjoy taking a leisurely cruise up the coast to see the beauty of Norway's fjords from below. But on this tour you can be looking down and walking amongst the highlands, a much more engaging experience. The specially crafted hiking route embraces the famous Hardangervidda area of western Norway where there is the potential for a heady mix of highland walking through the manifestations of the last Ice Age. The retreating glaciers once overwhelmed and moulded this landscape; gouging out the great coastal grooves which, with post glacial rising sea levels, have become the fjords. Of these, the beautiful Sognefjord is the longest and deepest in all of Norway, extending to the town of Flåm on a section called the Aurlandsfjord. You can choose from a wide range of hikes on this trip to take in the highlands, which lead you right up onto the glaciers edge. It is even possible to go out onto the ice to take an excursion. We have also composed a selection of lusher walks down into the pastoral settings of the Flåm and Aurland Valleys. These are furnished with forests, farmsteads, cascades and churches.
