day 1Manaus - Rio Negro

Boarding the Brasilian Dream. Begin your journey with a guided tour of Manaus, the gateway to the Amazon rainforest. This peaceful city, known for its unique architecture, invites you to explore its historic center, including a view of the iconic Amazonas Theatre. You’ll stroll through the Adolpho Lisboa Market, a wrought-iron architectural gem located along the banks of the Rio Negro. This emblematic spot bursts with vibrant colors and enticing aromas—from spices and freshly caught fish to exotic tropical fruits in surprising shapes. The market also features traditional remedies, handmade crafts, and key ingredients of Amazonian cuisine. You’ll also visit the magnificent Manaus Opera House (Teatro Amazonas), a Renaissance-style masterpiece inaugurated in 1896. It is richly adorned with European materials: Carrara marble, Murano glass chandeliers, and even glazed tiles from Alsace. A short navigation brings you to Vila Paraíso, where you'll visit the Rubber Museum, which traces the rise and fall of the Amazonian rubber boom. Through objects, documents, and reconstructions, you’ll explore this fascinating chapter of history. The museum offers a faithful re-creation of a 19th-century rubber plantation, immersing you in the lives of the seringueiros (latex tappers) and the cultural wealth of the era. Return on board and begin cruising the Rio Negro, a 2,250 km-long river and major tributary of the Amazon. We’ll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail. Dinner and overnight onboard your ship.
