Bhutan’s untamed mountains and serene valleys await on the "Druk Path Trekking" tour, a must for young adventurers seeking an authentic Himalayan experience. Connecting Paro and Thimphu, this trek follows ancient trading routes over high passes, through rhododendron forests, yak pastures, and alpine lakes teeming with trout.

Climb past the historic Jele Dzong, cross the panoramic Phume La, and descend through juniper forests and sacred monasteries before arriving in the tranquil capital. The journey is as rich in culture as it is in natural beauty, with every step offering a new perspective on Bhutan’s legendary landscapes.

day 1 - Arrive in Paro

The flight into Paro (2280m/7524ft) on Druk air is spectacular. In the clear weather, magnificent views of the world’s highest peaks give way to the verdant green of the Paro valley. The first gift from Bhutan is cool, clean fresh air as we step from the plane. After clearing customs and visa control, we are met by our guide and then drive a short distance to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure with a walk through the main street of Paro.

day 2 - Paro valley sightseeing & hike to Taktsang Monastery

After breakfast, we drive the winding road to the Drukgyal Dzong, the ruined fort, which once defended this valley from Tibetan invasions. Mount Chomolhari can be seen on a clear day from Drukgyal village.

Visit a typical Bhutanese farmhouse of a local family for a close up view of everyday Bhutanese life. We then drive to Shari to hike up (or horse ride) to the Taktsang monastery (Tiger’s nest). The horse ride up or hike to the cafeteria will take around one and half hour. At the view point enjoy the stunning view of the monastery, where Guru Padmasambhava landed on the back of a tigers in the 8th century. After lunch at the café, we walk back to the road point. On our way back to the hotel we visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temple in Bhutan built in 7th century.

day 3 - Trek Paro – Jele Dzong

After an early breakfast, you will be picked up by our representatives from the hotel and driven to Paro and Ta Dzong or the National Museum.

Walking time: 4-5 hours

Starting at: Ta Dzong (2300m)

Accommodation: Camp at Jele Dzong (3436m, 11,270 ft)

The trek trail is a rather gradual climb till the camp and if the weather is clear the Paro valley can be seen with the Mt. Jumolhari (7314m) and snowcapped mountains behind the valley.

day 4 - Trek from Jele Dzong – Tshokam

Distance: 09km

Walking time: 4-5 hrs

Starting at: Jele Dzong (3436mtrs)

Accommodation: Camp at Tshokam (3962mtrs; 12,995 ft)

The trail takes you through thick alpine forest and rhododendron trees. Most of the walking is up and down on a ridge. Mt. Jhumolhari is also visible. Pass by Jangchulakha, where we used to have a campsite but due to lack of water, we have moved our campsite to Ashoka. You may see Yak herders around Jangchulakha, and if you are interested you can visit their tents before reaching your campsite.

day 5 - Tshokam – Jimilangtso

Accommodation: Camp at Jimilangtsho (3880m)

The trail follows the ridge and on a clear day the views of the mountains and valley are beautiful, in particular, the Jichu Drake (6989m) camp close to the Lake of Jimilangtso. These lakes are known for their giant-sized trout.

day 6 - Trek from Jimilangtso – Simkota

Distance: 11 Km

Walking time: 4-5 hrs

Starting at: Jimilangtsho (3880m)

Accommodation: Camp at Simkota (4040m)

The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees and then you pass by the lake of Janye Tsho. Today you may come across Yak herder’s camps and you can really have a look as to how these people live. The camp is close to Simkota Lake.

day 7 - Trek from Simkota – Phajoding

Distance: 10 Km

Walking time: 3-4 hrs

Starting at: Simkota (4040m)

Accommodation: Camp at Phajoding (3870m)

You begin with a gradual climb up to Phume la (4210m) the highest elevation for this trek. If the weather permits you will have beautiful views of Mt. Gangkhar Punsum (7541m) the highest mountain in Bhutan and other Himalayan peaks. Below, you can see the entire Thimphu valley.

day 8 - Trek from Phajoding to Thimphu

Distance: 4-5 Km

Walking time: 3 hrs

Starting at: Phajoding (3870m)

Accommodation: End of trek at Thimphu (2300m), stay in hotel

The trek to Thimphu is all the way down hill through a forested area of mostly Blue pine. By taking leisurely pace you can reach Thimphu in about 3 hours for a nice hot shower and lunch.

day 9 - Drive Thimphu – Paro

In the morning, visit the Institute of Traditional Medicine, where old healing arts such as acupuncture and herbal remedies are still practiced. Also visit the Folk Heritage Museum, which is dedicated to connecting people to the Bhutanese rural past through exhibition of items and artifacts used in rural households. See the Textile Museum, where the art of traditional weaving is still kept alive and preserved through exhibition and has a good collection of old textiles which are rich in its color and design.

In the afternoon, visit the weekly outdoor market, where locals buy fruits and vegetables, rice, grains, chillis and other fresh foods. The crowded stalls offer many colorful local items such as yak tail dusters, butter tea cups, turquoise from Nepal and Tibet and musical instruments.

Other highlights include a visit to the Bhutanese Handmade Paper Factory, Zilukha Nunnery, Motithang Mini Zoo, and Sangaygang viewpoint. In the evening drive to Paro for overnight stay.

day 10 - Farewell
