Cycle through the spectacular landscapes of the Southern Caucasus. This captivating cycling journey traces an inspiring route through the Southern Caucasus, from the high-altitude lakes and ancient monasteries of Armenia to the dramatic canyons, alpine valleys and historic fortresses of Georgia. With expert guides and full vehicle support throughout, you’ll cycle up to 500km on a mix of paved roads, gravel tracks and scenic mountain terrain—featuring steady climbs, rewarding descents and a rich blend of history and culture at every turn.
Begin in Yerevan, exploring medieval cave monasteries, pre-Christian temples and the cultural foundations of Armenia before cycling along the shores of Lake Sevan and through the lush forests of Dilijan National Park. Continue north via Vanadzor and cross the border into Georgia, where the journey shifts into a new landscape and character.
In Georgia, experience a carefully designed itinerary that blends culture and moderate cycling. Wander the atmospheric streets of Old Tbilisi before riding through the forested highlands and meadows above Algeti National Park, the archaeological ruins of Samshvilde, and the volcanic plateaus surrounding Dashbashi Canyon. Explore the scenic Georgian Military Highway en route to the mountain resort of Gudauri.
Further north, cycle through the alpine villages of Sno Valley, ascend to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church beneath towering Mount Kazbegi, and trace the cliffs of the Dariali Gorge. Conclude your riding in the sweeping Truso Valley, a remote landscape of mineral springs, ancient fortifications and wide-open Caucasus scenery, before visiting the UNESCO-listed cathedral of Mtskheta and returning to Tbilisi for a final farewell.

day 1 - Join in Yerevan, Armenia

On arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to the group hotel. This evening your Armenian guide will provide a trip briefing (meet at the hotel reception desk in the lobby) before you all enjoy a traditional welcome meal.

day 2 - Sights of Yerevan

Today we will have a tour of the capital. Our tour will start from the Victory Park, at Mother Armenia monument, from where you will behold a panoramic view of the city. We will then visit other sights of the capital, including the Republic Square, the Opera house, the Cascade where you will see the statue of the world-famous sculptor Fernando Botero “The Black Cat”. We will also drive via Baghramyan Avenue, where you will see the Parliament, the Palace of President, and the National Academy of Sciences. We will visit the Genocide Memorial Complex with the museum. Visit Matenadaran museum, which hosts the biggest collection of medieval Armenian manuscripts.

day 3 - Geghard Monastery, Cycle to Garni & Khor Virap

In the morning we will be transferred by bus to Kotayk province, where we will visit an outstanding monument of medieval Armenian architecture – Geghard Cave Monastery, a UNESCO site. We soak up the medieval Armenian architecture of the Monastery; some chambers of the monastery were carved out of solid rock. The monastic complex received its name after the Holy Lance which was kept here in the middle ages. The cave enclosures of this cultural and architectural wonder are notable for amazing acoustics. The secret of the chamber has never been found. From here we will cycle to the 1st century A.D. Garni Temple, a unique example of Armenia’s pagan past. At one time this was the summer residence of the Armenian kings located in a picturesque place overlooking a deep canyon. Apart from the ruins of the royal complex, you will also see a bathhouse with an interesting mosaic. From Garni we will cycle to the Ararat Valley which is located at the foot of biblical Mount Ararat. Here we will visit the Khor Virap monastery; this complex embodies the adoption of Christianity in Armenia in 301 AD. From Khor Virap the bus will transfer us back to Yerevan.

day 4 - Hayrivank Monastery, Cycle to Martuni

In the morning we transfer to the Gegharkunik Region. Here we enjoy Lake Sevan - the “Pearl of Armenia”. This freshwater lake of volcanic origin is situated at an altitude about 6.500 feet. Its crystal–clear transparent water changes colour several times during the day. It is turquoise in direct sunlight, then turns a greenish shade, and finally becomes gray by the evening. It is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world located at 1900m and is surrounded by snow-covered mountains. Here we visit the 9th-12th century Hayrivank monastery, perched on a cliff with a wonderful view of the lake. Afterwards, we will cycle from Hayrivank monastery in the direction of the second largest city of Martuni. In ancient times it was known as Mets Kznut, but from 1830-1922 it was called Nerkin Gharanlugh, and in 1926 it was changed to Martuni in honour of the first Soviet premier of Armenia, Aleksandr Myasnikyan, whose nom de guerre was "Martuni". Martuni was the former capital of Gegharkunik Province, and has a church called Astvatsatsin church which was rebuilt in 1886. There is also an Iron Age fort which was excavated in 1997 by an Armenian-Italian team.

day 5 - Cycle to Tsapatagh via Vanevan Monastery

Today we will cycle from Martuni to Tsapatagh village. The whole day we will enjoy the beauty of Lake Sevan. One of our stops we will be in Vanevan monastery, located along a gorge in the southern part of the village of Artsvanist. Vanevan monastery is an important piece of Armenian architecture dating back to the 10th century. The inscriptions on the southeastern part is evidence that the church was built in 903.

Cycling: ~65km (mostly flat, dirt roads)

day 6 - Cycle to Dilijan

After breakfast we cycle to Dilijan - the Armenian Switzerland. We will explore the resort town of Dilijan located in the midst of the forests of Dilijan National Park. Beech and oak, as well as pine and yew are the object of environmental protection in the area. The healthy air, breathtaking nature and hospitable locals look forward to welcoming you in this picturesque corner of hospitable Armenia. We take a walk in the old town, and visit the preserved 19th century part of town.

Cycling: ~85km (medium difficulty - 35km flat, 773m / 7 km ascent, 1777m / 43km descent); road surface asphalt.

day 7 - Cycle to Vanadzor, transfer to Tbilisi Georgia

After breakfast we will cycle to Vanadzor, which is an urban municipal community and the third largest city in Armenia, serving as the capital of Lori Province. In Vanadzor we will leave our bicycles and take a bus to the Georgian border. Before arriving at the border we will visit the medieval monastery complex of Haghpat Monastery. Queen Khosrovanuysh, wife of the Bagratid king Ashot III, founded the monastery around 976. The monastery was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996. After border formalities we will be transferred to Tbilisi by vehicle.

Dinner (at your own expense) and overnight in Tbilisi.

You will meet your Georgian cultural guide tomorrow morning at 9am for a welcome briefing and city walking tour.

day 8 - Tbilisi – Cultural Walking Tour & Wine Tasting

Meet your cultural guide at 09:00am for a welcome briefing, then set out on a half-day walking tour of Old Tbilisi, which is a blend of Asian eeriness and European charm. Located in the gorge of Mtkvari River it’s shaped out in accordance with the terrain and forms a very beautiful city with Mt. Mtatsminda embracing the entire town, Narikala Fortress overlooking the oldest quarter of Tbilisi; and Metekhi Church overlooking Mtkvari River from a rocky plateau. In this classic tour of Tbilisi you’ll see the highlights of the Old Town with its beautiful Orthodox Christian churches, mosques & synagogues; the famous and refreshing sulphur baths; the narrow cobbled streets with hanging wooden carved multi-coloured balconies and houses following the architectural styles of 19th century Europe; the wonderful city views from Narikala Fortress and the statue of Mother Georgia; the glass Bridge of Peace; Freedom Square and Rustaveli Avenue. Enjoy a wine tasting at a local cellar before returning to the hotel.

day 9 - Cycle from Amlevi to Bolnisi via Tetritskaro and Samshvilde

At 8am, you will meet your cycling guide who will be with you for the next 5 days cycling. Transfer to Amlevi for a short walk to the Birtvisi viewpoint, followed by a safety briefing and bike setup. Begin cycling through forest and meadow trails above the Algeti Reservoir before climbing to a ridge with wide views of Algeti National Park. Descend to Tetritskaro and continue to the ancient fortress site of Samshvilde, where you enjoy a picnic with canyon views. In the afternoon, ride quiet rural roads to Bolnisi, known for its early Christian heritage and German-settled villages. Visit Bolnisi Sioni Church before dinner and wine tasting at a family-run winery.

day 10 - Cycle from Tetritskaro to Khrami Gorge and Dashbashi Canyon

After breakfast, transfer 20–30 minutes to Tetritskaro and begin today’s ride through the shaded forests and small wooden bridges of the Khrami Gorge. Continue past traditional stone-built villages before stopping at a hidden Soviet-era hydropower plant, an intriguing architectural relic tucked deep in the forest. From here, cycle into the open volcanic landscapes of the Tsalka Plateau, with wide views across ancient lava fields as you approach the spectacular Dashbashi Canyon. After arrival, walk out onto the famous Glass Diamond Bridge, suspended high above the canyon, for unforgettable views and photo opportunities. Dinner and overnight at your local guesthouse.

day 11 - Cycle to Gudauri via Didgori & Ananuri

After breakfast, transfer about 1 hour 40 minutes to the Didgori junction, the starting point for today's ride. Begin with a steady climb towards the Didgori Battle Memorial, commemorating the historic 1121 victory. As you ascend, wide panoramas open across the Trialeti Range and the rolling highlands. At the ridge, explore the striking giant sword monuments and enjoy sweeping mountain views before descending on a smooth, enjoyable asphalt road through open meadows into Nichbisi village. Load the bikes and transfer to a local winery for a relaxed wine tasting and traditional Georgian lunch. Continue by road along the scenic Georgian Military Highway to the beautiful Ananuri Fortified Church, overlooking the turquoise Jinvali Reservoir, before completing the final drive to Gudauri for dinner and overnight.

day 12 - Visit Sno Valley, Kazbegi & Gergeti Trinity Church

After breakfast, transfer from Gudauri into the dramatic Sno Valley, stopping at the iconic Russian–Georgian Friendship Monument for one of the finest panoramas of the Greater Caucasus. Begin cycling from Achkhoti village, riding through Sno and neighbouring hamlets framed by alpine scenery. Follow the road toward Juta, turning back before the steep high-mountain section and returning to Achkhoti. Continue cycling to Pansheti to see its natural soda water springs, then ride to Gergeti village where you meet the support vehicle. From here, tackle the challenging climb to the famous Gergeti Trinity Church, perched high above the valley with superb views of Mount Kazbegi (5,047m). Enjoy a traditional lunch at a local family restaurant. In the afternoon, cycle into the rugged Dariali Gorge, following the Terek River beneath towering cliffs, before walking the short 400 metres trail to Gveleti Waterfall.

day 13 - Cycle the Truso Valley, transfer to Tbilisi via Mtskheta

After breakfast, transfer 20–30 minutes from Kazbegi to Kobi village, the gateway to the beautiful Truso Valley. Begin cycling through wide-open meadows framed by sheer volcanic cliffs, passing colourful mineral springs, natural soda formations, shepherd hamlets and the remote ruins of Zakagori Fortress. Ride back along the valley to Kobi and load the bikes before transferring south toward Tbilisi, stopping en route for free time to purchase lunch. Continue to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, and visit the UNESCO-listed Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of the country’s most spiritually significant landmarks. Arrive in Tbilisi for a farewell dinner accompanied by a traditional Georgian folk show of music and dance.
