A Well Balanced Tour of the Caucasus Reviewed Tour: Caucasus Small Group Tour
5 - Excellent
  • Ronald E Zentek
  • From USA
“The tour days were not strenuous nor too laid back. Meals supplied and on your own were well apportioned based on the tour day's activities. We had a good opportunity to try the local cuisines of the three countries visited which is important to me since I'm a foodie and the wine tastings were interesting as well.”
The tour operator responded
“Thank you! Your high praise is a huge compliment. We are very glad we could contribute to introducing you to the amazing cuisine of South Caucasus. Advantour Caucasus Team.”
The road less travelled - South Caucasus Reviewed Tour: Caucasus Small Group Tour

“We really didnt know much about this area which has a rich and long history. Everything was beautifully organized with excellent, comfortable hotels, all including breakfast; a number of lunches and a few special dinners too, a range of cultural, historical, geological and archeological places to visit and the occasional day off to relax and do things on our own. We really appreciated that! Excellent and varied local food. The itinerary was well thought out. Although we could have stayed longer and seen more, this 2 week tour hit the highlights.

Some of those highlights: Baku Azerbaijan, our first stop, a modern city right on the Caspian Sea, the 3 Dubai-like flame towers with a light show every night, the stunning architecture of the Heydar Aliyev Center. Walking on the beautiful wide lively 100 year old Baku Boulevard along the Caspian, with many locals also enjoying the view, the vendors, the food, the artwork. It was really nice to stay right across the street from it, with a view of the Flame towers too. Riding in Ladas to walk around rare mud volcanoes - wow. Gobustan cave paintings. Georgia: wine tasting in caves, overnight at the luxurious Akhasheni wine resort, Tbilisi, visiting Gergeti Holy Trinity Church high in the Caucasus mountains (stunning!), the rock cut cave town Uplistsikhe, Unesco World Heritage site. Armenia: Views of Mt. Ararat from everywhere, in Yerevan the fabulous Cascades multilevel art gallery going up a steep hill via escalators or walking.”
The tour operator responded
“Thank you! We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed our itinerary and could help you experience Caucasus and its unique culture. Advantour Caucasus Team”
Fascinating area of the world Reviewed Tour: Caucasus Small Group Tour

“I would warmly recommend the Caucasus as a trip for people interested in history, culture, beauty and food. We were especially impressed with Georgia, its natural sites, hospitality and culture. Tbilisi was charming, the visit to the wine resort was the cherry on the cake and the trip to the Kazbegi mountain, where we lucked out on an amazing sunny day, was exhilarating. We also tremendously enjoyed Baku, mostly as a centre for modern architecture, which was one of our main interests. Food was wonderful throughout and we were offered even more dinners and lunches than initially included in the itinerary. Our guides were very knowledgeable and personable.”
The tour operator responded
“Thank you! Hearing that our Clients enjoy traveling with us is the greatest pleasure. We are glad we could help you experience Caucasus and its unique culture. Advantour Caucasus Team”

Tbilisi - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

A trip to Tbilisi is a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity to spend your holidays at a colorful intersection of the East and West. Thanks to its emerging art scene, mish-mash of architectural influences and immense historical heritage, there’s simply no doubt that your holidays to Tbilisi will be packed with adventures of all sorts.

Tour Highlights

  •  The Giorgi Chitaia Open Air Museum of Ethnography is a must-visit stop to those who want to acquaint themselves with the Georgia as a whole. This outdoor space hosts dozens of folk houses inspired by architecture from different parts of the country.
  • Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia is located in the central part of the city and it treasures a vast collection of archeological artefacts originating from Georgia, from the Bronze Age all the way to the 20 th century.
  • The National Botanical Garden of Georgia is tucked away at the foot of the Narikala fortress. This gorgeous urban oasis is home to over 4,500 plant species.
  • The Old Town is a colorful maze in the central part of Tbilisi, composed of narrow, winding alleyways lined with rustic houses that fuse several architectural styles.

Travel Tips

  • Mtskheta, UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous tourist attractions in Georgia, lies about 20 kilometers north of Tbilisi. Its centerpiece is Jvari, a 6 th Century Orthodox monastery that perches atop a rugged mountainside overlooking the town.
  • Tbilisi metro is the easiest and fastest way to get around the city. The signs and announcements are both in Georgian and English, making it easy to navigate for tourists.
  • Be sure to try the khinkali, one of the most popular Georgian delicacies. This is a type of dumpling, usually filled with pork, beef or lamb and seasoned with cumin, chili and salt.
  • Georgia is famous for its age-old wine-making tradition, so make sure to try one of the local varieties while in Tbilisi.
