Archeological evidence suggests that the area of South Caucasus is one of the oldest sites of human presence, dating back as far as 3 000 000 years. The gigantic isthmus of the Caucasus lies between the Black and Caspian Seas, serving as a crossroad of Europe and Asia for thousands of years. The countries of South Caucasus - Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan - are distinguished by their distinct histories, language traditions, religions, cultures and natural surroundings. The interdependence was caused by cultural and political connections as the countries developed throughout the centuries.
While exploring the South Caucasus countries you will discover a fascinating cross-roads culture that has integrated both Europe and Asia. You will visit World Heritage Monasteries, unique painted churches, cave towns, stunning gorges and valleys, ethnographical and historical museums, art galleries and more…

I loved every minute of my time in these incredible countries. The history, the scenery, food and wine was amazing. The Explore tour leaders in both Armenia (Roza) and Georgia (Alex) were superb, so knowledgeable and passionate about their countries and ensured everything worked smoothly. I loved the mix of historical sites, foodie experiences and walking tours, whether in towns or in the countryside. The itinerary is busy, as the trip notes said, so well prepared and really felt it was great value for money. I would highly recommend this trip to others and clients (I am a travel agent). Could easily go back to Georgia just for the food !

We loved our time in Azerbaijan. Baku was surprisingly cosmopolitan and the people very friendly. The landscape and history of the region was fascinating. Our guide Arif was outstanding, often doing much more than was required to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. Would thoroughly recommend Azerbaijan as an interesting destination.

Alex the tour leader and country guide for Georgia is excellent and shares his wide knowledge of the Caucasus region in an easily understandable manner. Whilst both the country guides for Azerbaijan and Armenia also very good. The overall itinerary is very varied and covers lots' of different aspects of all three countries. I particularly enjoyed the hike up to the Gergeti Trinity Church with all the snow capped high peaks of the Caucasus mountains all around. The trip is fairly fast paced and covers a lot of ground, so you need to understand that it's a great introduction or taster trip to these three fascinating countries and if you want a more in depth experience then you'd need to go back and spend more time there.
