This tour of Vietnam covers much of what is a diverse and interesting about the north of the country. Starting in Hanaoi, the capital, we have included Sapa for its trekking and minority villages, Ninh Binh region for its limestone peaks which rival those of Halong Bay and of course time exploring spectacular Halong Bay itself.
Your itinerary begins with a city tour of Hanoi before taking the overnight train to Lao Cai and the trekking area of Sapa. We will spend two days exploring the valleys and peaks of this beautiful region while getting to know the local people and their customs. We then return to Lao Cai for the overnight train back to Hanoi for an early breakfast at the hotel before having the rest of the day free to explore this city. After a night back in Hanoi we travel to Hoa Lu, famous for being the country's capital from 968 and 1009 AD. This area is one of stunning natural beauty which you will see best during your boat ride along the Boi River. Next we travel to stunning Halong Bay and spend 2 days cruising on a traditional junk around the limestone outcrops as well as sea kayaking and swimming - this is bound to be one of your tour highlights. Join us on this guided, 4-hour-long tour of Hoi An, a port city that was a major trading center of Southeast Asia in the 16th century, and get the chance to learn more about the city’s melting-pot history through its architecture.
Meet your tour guide and driver at your hotel and drive to Hoi An's World Heritage site of Ancient Town. The town lies on the banks of the Thu Bon River and is criss-crossed by numerous canals. Note the distinct Chinese architecture of its houses with low, tile roofs built on narrow streets. All the houses were made of rare wood and decorated with lacquered boards.
Start walking around town with your guide and visit some of the most important monuments of the city, including the old house of Tan Ky, Fukian Assembly Hall (an ornate Chinese temple that was first built in 1692), the Japanese Covered Bridge and local markets and harbors.
Enjoy Hoi An’s traditional dance and folk song performances before heading for lunch. Savor delicious Hoi An specialities like banh mi, cao lau and the famous white rose. Drive back to the hotel after lunch.
17:00 - 18:00: After picking you up from the hotel, you will be taken to a home in Hanoi for the dinner.
On welcoming you to the host’s house, you will be offered a cup of hot green tea - as a traditional custom of Vietnamese family used to showing respect to their guests.
Then you will come to the dining room and enjoy the meal prepared by the host. You will have a chance to try the traditional dishes in a cosy atmosphere at home.
See how the local enjoy their dinner, what their kitchen looks like, and also witness some customs during the meal: the children need to invite the elders before eating and after finishing meal, you will be shown how to use chopsticks in the traditional manner, and how to put chopsticks to express that we finished meal. Through all of that, you will clearly see the difference between Western and Eastern dining etiquette.
The tour will end at around 20:00 - 21:00 and you will be dropped off at the hotel.
Join us on this 6-hour, private bicycle tour and get the chance to explore Bat Trang, a small, quaint village about 13km southeast of central Hanoi, on the other side of the Chuong Duong Bridge. Your guide will receive you at your hotel before 8:00 am, after which you will be briefed about issues regarding safety and bike handling.
Cycle along the Red River dyke, cross the Long Bien Bridge along the way. This bridge, which was formerly known as the Paul Doumer Bridge, is one of the greatest engineering accomplishments of the French, who once ruled over Vietnam.
Continue riding along the dyke after crossing the bridge before heading for a small biking trail that passes through cornfields and vegetable as well as fruit gardens. See lush green paddy fields along the way. Ride past banana, guava and apple farms.
Reach Bat Trang after about two hours of cycling. Apart from its scenic location, the village is also famous for its high-quality ceramic products. The vases, bowls, cups and plates made by the villagers are exported worldwide.
Take a short walk around the village. Explore its ceramic market and visit the Bat Trang Temple as well as Bat Trang Communal House. Discover the local way of living and learn more about the traditions of the place. Stop at a local workshop and learn more about the pottery-making process. Try making pottery on your own. Its time to cycle back to the capital city now.
