The Shogan Trail was a well thought out itinerary. It was full of interesting
contrasts i.e. large modern & busy cities e.g. Tokyo, historic cities e.g. Kyoto, Nara, & Nagasaki, and rural & coastal Kyushu including a beautiful boat trip amongst many small islands. The food was interesting, but not always suitable for vegetarians & vegans. You must be prepared for sunny warm weather & wet cooler weather. Heavy rain lasting for hours & causing the suspension of the Bullet Train services resulting in congestion of trains & people. The weather means you may not see Mt. Fuji. The leaves were only just beginning their autumn colours.
The dates of my trip were 27th. October to 7th. November. I thoroughly
recommend this trip as a great introduction to Japan.

David Lam, our tour leader, was the best. He communicated very well, helped out with any problem or question, was super organised and managed the group of sixteen really well.
Our accomodation was of a good standard and the itinerary kept us busy but with some time for ourselves.

Continue to Hiroshima, where you can go to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum to learn about the atomic bombing in 1945, visit the iconic Itsukushima Shrine, located on Miyajima Island, and explore the beautiful Hiroshima Castle and its surrounding park. Next, take a ferry to Matsuyama, located on the island of Shikoku, where you visit Matsuyama Castle, one of Japan's few remaining original castles, and relax in Dogo Onsen, one of Japan's oldest hot springs and the inspiration for the famous Studio Ghibli film, Spirited Away.
